VA - Easy Rider, Original Soundtrack [1969]
The soundtrack for Easy Rider (1969) is a defining piece of music history, reflecting the countercultural ethos of the late 1960s. As the film chronicles a journey across America, its music serves as both a narrative and emotional guide, perfectly capturing the spirit of rebellion and freedom. Iconic tracks like Steppenwolf's "Born to Be Wild" and "The Pusher" encapsulate the untamed and defiant energy of the era, while The Byrds’ "Wasn’t Born to Follow" evokes a sense of exploration and individuality. The inclusion of Jimi Hendrix's "If 6 Was 9" and Roger McGuinn's "Ballad of Easy Rider" further grounds the soundtrack in the psychedelic and folk-rock movements of the time. Beyond its role in the movie, the album stands as a cultural artifact, showcasing the diverse and transformative sounds of the 1960s. It remains a timeless celebration of freedom, identity, and the power of music in storytelling. (B)

Thanks for this and your recent posts - I'm having a little trouble keeping up!
ReplyDeleteMe too, Dr Robert.
DeleteEnjoy them all.

Awesome record! The first lp I bought with my own money when I was 14 back in 1969. I went to see the movie with my mate at the time and we were blown away...set us on our lifetime journey through Rock'n'Roll. I now have 4 different copies on vinyl and cd,including my original one which is still in great condition despite years of spins.
ReplyDeleteHi Montax.
DeleteThat’s incredible. Easy Rider is such a defining soundtrack, and it’s amazing that it set you on a lifelong journey through Rock’n’Roll. Holding onto that original LP in great condition after all these years is true dedication. Keeping the music alive is the treasure.
Cheers.
Thanks BB. Historic!

Historic, indeed. First compilation-style soundtrack, first rock'n'roll soundtrack. My version has the European 'cityscape/rural escape in the overlaid title' cover. It's also still a cracking listen, with the only negative being the 'fake' version of "The Weight". (Not a bad version, but the use of that song is so iconic in the movie, that it was a shame they couldn't license The Band's version...)
ReplyDeleteHi One Buck Guy.
DeleteI too have multiple versions of the great set. I totally got into Steppenwolf and loved the opening track.
Cheers.
Thanks a lot for 3 great, and yes: historic soundtracks! Best, TC
ReplyDeleteAlways my pleasure, TC.
DeleteEnjoy them all again.
