THE MANY FACES OF...
VA - The Many Faces of Sex Pistols [2013] (3 x CDs)
The Sex Pistols didn’t just shake up music, they completely tore down the rulebook and rewrote it in chaotic, rebellious fashion. Decades after their explosive debut, their influence can still be heard in modern punk and beyond. The Many Faces of Sex Pistols is a fascinating deep dive into the band’s history, exploring their raw beginnings, infamous breakup, and the lesser-known musical paths that followed.
This 3CD collection, released in 2013, offers a mix of early demos, live performances, alternate versions, and solo recordings from Sid Vicious. The first disc features recordings from various sources, including the legendary Gooseberry Sessions. The second disc brings a rare find, the complete transfer of Dave Goodman’s 1992 album Deny, a hard-to-come-by artifact of British punk history. The third disc collects additional material, including tracks from Sid’s time at Max's Kansas City, though the quality varies. One of the most intriguing parts of this set is the inclusion of the Ex Pistols, a project spearheaded by Dave Goodman after the original band’s split. Their recordings have long been considered one of the hidden treasures of British punk, offering an alternative take on the Pistols’ energy and style.
Packaged in a tri-fold Digipak with catchy artwork, liner notes, and newly remastered sound, The Many Faces of Sex Pistols isn’t just for fans, it’s a must-have for anyone interested in the wild, unpredictable world of rock history. Whether you know every riff by heart or are just diving into their legacy, this collection captures the spirit of a band that refused to play by the rules. (B)

You've outdone yourself with this one BB. Saw them at Winterland in San Francisco in Jan 78. Absolutely nuts. My first experience at what would later be called a "mosh pit" ? People spitting on them and an endless finale with John laying on the stage just mumbling The Stooges "No Fun". Of all the shows I went to in the 70's this is one I remember well.
ReplyDeleteHi RichardR.
DeleteThat’s a vivid flashback, sounds like pure, raw chaos in the most unforgettable way. It’s no wonder it carved itself into your memory. What you witnessed was more than a gig, it was a cultural combustion point. That’s living history right there.
Cheers.
Indispensable! Great thanks
ReplyDeleteMy pleasure, MA696.
DeleteCheers.
Sad part is no one I knew would go with me. They thought they were shit. To me it was 1966 garage music.
ReplyDeleteHI RichardR.
DeleteWhile others scoffed, you saw through the noise and caught the spirit, defiant, and unapologetically garage. That early Sex Pistols chaos wasn’t for everyone, but for those dialed into that raw 1966 vibe, it was lightning in a bottle.
Cheers.
