MINIMAL & BEAUTIFUL
VA - Bare‑Beautiful Universe (A Butterboy Compilation) (4 x CDs)
I hope you like Bare-Beautiful Universe, a four-disc journey into the spaces that music usually leaves untouched.
There are records that fill a room, and there are records that change the way a room feels. This collection belongs to the second kind. Its music is drawn towards restraint, intimacy and silence: voices that seem to arrive from the next room, guitars reduced to a few carefully chosen notes, pianos allowed to breathe between phrases, electronics that hover at the edge of hearing. Nothing here needs to shout for your attention.
Across four discs, the journey gradually turns inward.
CD1 - Falling Into Silence, begins with solitude. The world is still present, but increasingly distant, leaving the listener alone with a voice, a melody, a thought.
CD2 - Ghost-Tone Echoes, moves further away from the physical world. Drones, textures and slowly shifting sounds create a place where time seems to loosen and disappear.
CD3 - Bare-Soul Confessions, brings the human voice back to the centre. These are intimate songs, strange songs, vulnerable songs: music that feels less performed than revealed.
CD4 - Negative-Space Reveries, is where almost everything unnecessary has fallen away. What remains is fragile, skeletal and intensely human. A breath. A voice. A few notes. A memory suspended in silence.
That is the heart of Bare-Beautiful Universe.
This is not music designed to overwhelm you. It asks you to listen more closely. To notice the space between the notes, the hesitation in a voice, the sound that almost disappears before you have fully heard it.
Because silence is not the absence of music. Sometimes, it is where the music lives.
Bare-Beautiful Universe is a sanctuary built from those moments, four discs for quiet rooms, late nights, solitary journeys and the rare occasions when we are willing to stop filling the silence and simply listen.
The universe is vast. This one is deliberately small. And within it, there is more than enough to hear. (B)

Music weaves itself into the fabric of our emotions, dances through the corridors of memory, and whispers to the soul of who we are. Sharing these stories deepens the connection, turning the experience into something timeless and profound.

Damn. You're doing it again. Just like the Lava Lamp excursion. I can tell this is going to be another journey... somewhere. Somewhere fine. Indeed.
ReplyDeletethanks brother Butter.
btw....das sum fine art there!
Hi D,
DeleteHaha, you've seen through me. Much like Lava Lamp, this one is definitely intended as a journey rather than just a collection of songs. Where it ends up is half the fun.
I'm especially pleased you enjoyed the artwork as well. Thanks.
Cheers.
This looks intriguing and could be a great journey. I still marvel at your Swamp Music package. I just came across a reference to the tv show Paladin and the great theme song. If your looking for a new comp, this sounds like a great idea for a comp with tv western songs and music. You could do a great job of album covers with all the available tv promo shots and the american west.
ReplyDeleteHi ken49,
DeleteThanks for your kind words. I'm delighted you're still enjoying the Swamp Music set and that this one has caught your interest as well.
I actually have a TV/Film western themes and music set in the works. There were certainly some memorable theme songs and incidental pieces from that era, and you're right, there would be no shortage of wonderful imagery available for the artwork.
Cheers.
These comps are excellent taking me out of my comfort zone and introducing new artists and sounds
ReplyDeleteMany Thanks
Hi Steve,
DeleteMany thanks. Comments like this make all the hours spent compiling worthwhile. One of my main goals is to take listeners beyond their usual favourites and hopefully introduce them to a few new artists and sounds along the way.
I'm delighted that Bare-Beautiful Universe has done exactly that for you.
Cheers.
.... I’m really looking forward to listening to this new compilation...
ReplyDeleteThank you very much BB.
Cheers
Giulio
Thanks, Giulio.
DeleteI hope you enjoy the journey. This is one of those compilations that reveals itself gradually, so I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts once you've had a chance to spend some time with it.
Cheers.
some of your listeners might enjoy Morton Feldman, man some of his stuff really alters the atmosphere of the room, maybe LaMonte Young and I'd be interested in learning of others I'm not aware of.
ReplyDeleteOh yeah and one side of Tony conrad-outside the dream syndicate.
DeleteHi Unknown,
DeleteThanks for those recommendations. Morton Feldman, La Monte Young and Tony Conrad certainly occupy some fascinating musical territory. Music like that can completely change the atmosphere of a room and alter the way we listen.
One of the joys of posts like this is discovering artists who sit just beyond the edge of our usual listening habits, so suggestions like yours are always welcome. There are always more musical worlds waiting to be explored.
Cheers.
"There are records that fill a room, and there are records that change the way a room feels.". And there are those that will clear a room. Could that BB comp be in the offing? Sounds like fun to me.
