TRIBUTE SONGS TO DEAD MUSICIANS
VA - Tribute Songs to Dead Musicians (A Butterboy Compilation) CD1+CD2+CD3
The death of a musical pioneer reverberates across the music world when you hear of their passing. They shape our thoughts and lives, they move or hearts and they give us gifts that stay with us until we ourselves pass. I for one am eternally grateful for their legacy. Their contributions are carved into my heart.
Musicians are emotional people who live in a fraternity of gifted people. When one of their own dies they are understandably heartbroken by their loss and by knowing the legacy left behind. When another artist writes a song about this lost comrades they generally produce something special.
Here are 75 tracks written by artists who have lost their band-mate/friend/inspiration and often someone they grew with. Certainly they impacted them significantly enough to write a tribute to them. Their legacy is etched into the minds of others and the stories that are shared about them.
Enjoy these beautiful songs.

This is very well researched and documented. Impressive.. Very Impressive. Knowing what a song is about usually adds to its meaning and enjoyment. It's not always obvious either. This will be a good educational listen then. Thanks
ReplyDeleteGlad you like the concept mrRadio and I hope you do enjoy it.
DeleteThanks for your kind words too.
Say.. there's no place to comment in the post itself so pardon me putting it here..

DeleteGreat Folk Rock Songs CD1+CD2
and also you saw above the comment on "Rock Bands From San Francisco"?
I realize these things have a limited shelf life, so I'm looking back. Sincere Thanks
Ooops.. just missed your reply on San Francisco.. I see it now
DeleteI just discovered your wonderful site. I've been putting together themed comps for decades-even before cassettes, I had some reel-to-reel compilations that I treasured dearly. Could you please re-activate the 50 Songs About Rock and Roll comp? It looks great though I see a couple of omissions-The Kinks' A Rock 'n' Roll Fantasy and Life Is a Rock (But the Radio Rolled Me) by Reunion. Actually, the latter song could go on a future comp-Making a List, Checkin' It Twice. It would also include End of the World (REM), Billy Joel's We Didn't Start the Fire, Too Much Monkey Business, Subterranean Homesick Blues, Jumbo (by the BeeGees), etc.
ReplyDeleteAt any rate, keep up the good work!
Hi Ice X
DeleteThanks for your comments and kind words. Appreciated.
Yes there are many songs that could be worthy of another comp. I will keep your suggestions in mind. I will re-up the 50 Songs About Rock and Roll today.
Cheers
Back at ya! I can see that we share a love of deep cuts and music from various eras & genres. Flame! (Get Your Mind Made Up is one of the best B-sides ever.) It Came Out of the Sky! (I'd love to hear Fogerty rock a version updated for these days of modern time-I think Jody could get a bit more than $17 million now.) Thanks again. You'll hear from me soon. (I got ideas!)
DeleteAlways willing to learn. Any suggestions will be great, although I have hundreds of new comps in play. You have already given me an idea... Why not do the greatest B sides comp (hopefully without to many overlaps already issued on other comps here)
DeleteBTW I have just UPLOADED 50 Songs About Rock and Roll today. Cheers!
