Tennessee Ernie Ford - Greatest Hits And Favorites [2010] CD1+CD2 +CD3

TENNESSEE ERNIE FORD

Tennessee Ernie Ford - Greatest Hits And Favorites [2010] CD1+CD2 +CD3

Ernest Jennings Ford (February 13, 1919 – October 17, 1991), known professionally as Tennessee Ernie Ford, was an American recording artist and television host who enjoyed success in the country and Western, pop, and gospel musical genres. Noted for his rich bass-baritone voice and down-home humor, he is remembered for his hit recordings of "The Shotgun Boogie" and "Sixteen Tons".  (Wikipedia)

I became interested in the history of country music. After reading a certain online encyclopedia's article I was made aware that Tennessee Erie performed "hillbilly boogie" in addition to his gospel songs and "Sixteen Tons." Originally I thought I would buy just a single volume of Tennessee Ernie Ford's greatest hits and it would be sufficient. It seemed odd to me that a cd with a similar cover to this collection did not have his best-known hit (namely "Sixteen Tons"). So I begin to look elsewhere for a better deal and more complete coverage of his material. And this is where I found it. I believe the sound quality on these three discs is just incredible.
In addition to finding a sampling of his "hillbilly boogie" songs his "Sixteen Tons" was also in this collection. I also found that Tennessee Ernie sang the familiar "The Ballad of Davy Crockett." Disc two also has a song about a "Strange Little Girl" wherein the vocals are just incredible! I now believe Tennessee Ernie is one of the most incredible singers country music has had. As far as I have been able to find this is the best collection around for Tennessee Ernie. (Amazon)

  2. I remember him singing Gilbert and Sullivan's Pinafore on his TV show. He described the villain as 'so mean he would steal the pea out of a kid's whistle".
