VA - Impossible But True, The Kim Fowley Story [2003]
Impossible But True - the Kim Fowley Story compilation celebrates the life & times, the triumphs & heroic failures of one of rock's most colorful, not to say notorious characters & the last true underground hero. A songwriter, producer, music publisher, talent scout, scene-maker extraordinaire & occasional recording artist, he's been in the music biz for over 40 years. Painstakingly assembled with Kim's full cooperation, 'Impossible But True' features 32 titles spanning 1960-69, many of which have never appeared on CD (Ace Records)
A collection of Fowley's work that is more mainstream than 'Underground Animal,' in that many/most of the cuts are by bands and performers one actually knows. It is that fact that makes this the more awe-inspiring compliation. Rather than becoming well-known in one genre - as did Phil Spector - Fowley seemed to. perhaps deliberately, move all over the musical spectrum. His recent commentaries on his radio show tend to confirm that view. With that in mind, the listener must be prepared to hear a amazing variety of musical genres, linked together only by the fact that Kim halted his dash across the musical landscape from time to time to work with a veritable United Nations of artists. Among the nuggets on this disc are pieces like 'Alley Oop;' 'Popsicles & Icicles;' 'Like Long Hair' and 'Papa-Omm-Mow-Mow.' Oh yeah...there's also a cut by Cat Stevens. (Amazon)

He is a varied individual in life and in music (and very interesting).

Mr. Butterboy....I would like to make a request. Do you have a copy of Connie Francis - Let's go where the good times Roll. Thanks in advance.
ReplyDeleteHi ProfessorCalculus,

I was going to post box sets "Kissin, Twistin, Goin Where The Boys Are" [1996] and / or "Souvenirs" [1996] at some stage or you could find this one already posted here
