VA - Psychedelic Dream [1982]
PSYCHEDELIC BABY
VA - Psychedelic Dream [1982]
This was released by Columbia Records in 1982 and blew my little mind. It introduced me to such cornerstones of my psychedelic universe as the U.S. Kaleidoscope, The United States of America, Kak, and Spirit. It had great kitsch too, by Peanut Butter Conspiracy and Aorta. I had never heard of Terry Reid or Gun before, and both have great tracks here. Despite it really being an attempt by Columbia to scrape a few pennies from long dead-out-of-print assets, it does make a pretty good overview of major-label psychedelia. This album considerably deepened my interest in psychedelia, an interest that has never really gone away. The back cover had a dreamlike little piece of psychedelic doggerel written on it that intrigued me. I also thought my parents would not approve, which added to its allure. (Amazon)

Wonderful! Even though the music here is from only one label (albeit a major one) there is just so much to appreciate here. I would like to say to anyone unfamiliar with the groups Spirit and Aorta.. and who likes the songs by them presented here.. I strongly encourage you to check out any of the first 4 Spirit albums (from 1968 thru 1970), and perhaps especially the Aorta album (simply titled Aorta) from 1968, which is a kind of concept album, unique and quite amazing. Note though that Aorta's second (and final) album had personnel changes and is musically VERY different from the first (meaning mostly not so good). Thanks BB!
ReplyDeleteHi mrRadio,
DeleteGlad you like this one. It is a great listen. I have a lot of Spirit music and will see what comps I have for future uploads. I really enjoy there music too. The Aorta great(psychedelic rock band from Chicago) Album should surface in the CRATE at some stage.
Cheers
