SUNSHINE POP

VA - Sunshine Days Vol. 01 to Vol. 05, Pop Classics of the 60's [1997-1998] (5 x CD's)

Aptly titled "Sunshine Days", this collection of pop tunes from the late 60s provides a soothing collection of tunes to be enjoyed by fans of the genre or the perfect example of what rock fans hated about this realm of pop music.   I was pleasantly surprised by this wonderful collection. It makes the 60's seem like a wonderful time. Of course there are great hits like stormy (Classics IV), Love (Can Make You Happy) (mercy) and Sunday will never be the same. But I was really impressed with the lesser known gems like Tommy Roe's psychedelic, It's Now Winter's Day, which is truly captivating and takes you to another place and time. Another time, Kites are fun and Mr. Dieingly Sad are all outstanding songs that should've been bigger hits. The mono mix of Over You by Gary Puckett & The Union Gap is superior to the stereo mix heard elsewhere.  I have only found Workin' on a Groovy Thing by 5th Dimension on one other compilation... and then transferred from LP. Tomorrow by Strawberry Alarm Clock is an often overlooked song from the group best known for Incense & Peppermints. There are NO weak cuts, which is rare in a various artists compilation. If you like mellow, 60's pop, this is a must have collection, oh yeah, and the sound quality is outstanding! (Amazon)

  5. I remember hearing this stuff on the radio and sort of blowing it off as childish pop nonsense. I preferred rocking tracks. But, with age, I can look back and listen to this and enjoy it for what it was. Thanks a lot for these. Merry Christmas to you!
