VA - Attic Records 25th Anniversary CD Box Set [1998] (4 x CD's)

ATTIC RECORDS

VA - Attic Records 25th Anniversary CD Box Set [1998] (4 x CD's)

Attic Records was a Canadian independent record label, founded in 1974 by Alexander Mair and Tom Williams. The label was known for developing Canadian talent, including Anvil, Lee Aaron, Maestro Fresh Wes, The Nylons, Teenage Head, and Triumph. The company was also active in distributing international acts not affiliated with a major label, most successfully with Jennifer Warnes, "Weird Al" Yankovic, Katrina and the Waves, and Creed.

Attic Records ceased to exist as an independent company in 1999, when it was bought by a consortium headed by Allan Gregg and merged with TMP (The Music Publisher) and Oasis Entertainment Distribution to form The Song Corporation. The Attic label briefly continued to exist as a subsidiary of The Song Corporation, but within months of its acquisition, the label name was changed to "Song Recordings".  The Song Corporation filed for bankruptcy in May 2001. Attic's Canadian catalog and masters are now owned by Unidisc Music. (Wikipedia)

  1. Thanks for this set, Butter and/or Son-Of - I'm surprised to see that I know a good several of the tracks... which means that the rest are worth the listen as well.

    2. I think I will; thanks again, Butter. Very often when a several-disk compilation of some record label comes out, what you end up with is a few gems in a boxful of floor-sweepings from their studio. That's why I was happy to see this particular lineup you've shared; I really enjoy unknown music from pre-1940 and much earlier... but for 1955-plus, I'm pulled in first by the known. This one pulls me in... and encourages me to stay, too.

  3. This looks interesting because it's Canadian and there's known and unknown within. Those record company mergers were likely hard on those souls who worked there too. Not always done for good purpose, mergers many times did not work out well for anyone. Glad the music survived. Thanks BB.
