VA - Times Ain't Like They Used To Be ALL [1997-2003] (8 x CD's)

CLASSIC RECORDINGS FROM THE 1920's & 1930's

VA - Times Ain't Like They Used To Be ALL [1997-2003] (8 x CD's)

This is a collection of classic recording from the 1920's and 1930's featuring many all-time great performances of early American traditional music. These albums includes a fascinating overview of traditional American musical styles from the Civil War to the 1920s including all phases of both white and black genres, fiddle tunes, rags, banjo songs, religious selections, old ballads, blues, etc.

All eight volumes of this great collection are amazingly awesome. It features a great array of entertainers from that era and portrays the music of that time at the best. It shows the greatness of older blues music gospel music string music Cajun music. There are entertainers on this CD Series that are hard to come by since they only did about 6-10 sides for their whole career. I would highly recommend this entire eight volume set to all who love the older twang sound of that era where country music was country music.

When it comes to re-issues of 78's many can't get past the surface noise to hear the music underneath. Yazoo has done an admirable job of cleaning that surface noise without destroying the underlying music. If you like old time music - and old time blues, the various Yazoo collections are a great way to discover the gutsy originals and get a perspective on the real music and the real musicians. Get down off that mountain and hear to some music that hasn't been processed like supermarket cheese food. (Amazon)
