The "Hall of Fame" series from the vaults at FAME Studios is an unyielding source of top-drawer rare and unissued Southern soul from the 60s and 70s. Kent Records' ongoing resurrection of the great recordings made at FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals is a revelation. So much great music was made at the Fame studios. The studio had remarkable sound and great engineering, the songwriting was classic, the studio band featured many of the top players in the south and the artists, whether well known or obscure, brought it with them when they came.

Volumes 1 material drawn from the deeper corners of the studio's bulging tape vaults. The superb music spans almost a decade in the life of FAME studios. Among the featured artists can be found many of the most famous names in '60s Southern Soul, as well as several collector favorites that, but for the lack of a decent-sized hit, could have been just as famous. Several of the songs are widely associated with other Fame artists, but you will have never heard them as you will hear them here.

Volume 2 or "Rare and Unreleased Gems" from the vaults of Fame Records and gems they are indeed! Honestly, it's astounding that so much great soul music languished in the studio vaults for so many years. But many thanks to the dedicated music addicts at Kent for unearthing and releasing these goodies. Fans of this era of soul music (in this case, the recordings are from 1964-1972) will be thrilled with what awaits their ears.

Volume 3 "More Rare and Unissued Gems" is packed with great tunes. Certainly no drop-off in quality. Fans of 1960s and early '70 soul music will find a lot to savor on this varied collection. Although recording dates are uncertain in some cases, all tracks were recorded 1965-1970. The most unique aspect about this third volume is that it includes only male vocalists. We are treated to more unreleased but excellent songs from Fame vets such as Clarence Carter and Otis Clay, as well as the three Fame staff writers turned singers; George Jackson, Dan Greer, and Prince Philip Mitchell. There are also plenty of wonderful no-name" contributions from artists such as Ben & Spence, Big Ben Atkins, Herman Moore, Roy Lee Johnson, and several others, plus two tracks from unknown vocalists. Yes, despite their sleuthing and hard work, the compilers just weren't able to find out who sang a couple of these songs, nor when they were recorded! (Amazon)
