PROTEST SONGS
VA - The Little Red Box of Protest Songs [2009] (3 x CD's)
The Little Red Box Of Protest Songs is a truly outstanding release, 3 CD's full of some of the finest protest folk music from the USA of the early 20th century. These old protest songs are still, sadly, pertinent today. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the recordings given that most were recorded long before all the hi-tech equipment now available. Three of the discs are CDs. The fourth is a DVD (not included). My only complaint is that there are no dates given for the recordings. The approximate time can be figured out, but exact dates and places would be interesting. The booklet enclosed with the discs gives background history plus brief biographies of the singers. Excellent collection. Broad based and giving an indication of progression through time of the genre relating the music to contemporary issues. (Amazon)
