A French-only four CD collection containing more of the absolute best in Rock, Pop, Folk and Country music that was either inspired by or born and bred in the heart of California. This is not a compilation of artists or bands that originate from California. Some artists come from the east coast like Frankie Valli. Some are not even from America like Chris Rea. This compilation is made by the French division of Rhino (so the small booklet is written in French) to discover all the facets of what is called "West Coast", "Soft Rock", "Blue Eyed soul", "Yacht Rock" or "Californian Music".   Most songs from the first CD are from the early 70's when country rock was still a big influence. On the second disc some "wah wah" guitars and moog synths bring the songs closer to the dance floor of the seventies. The songs on the third disc are from the late 70's to the mid 80's. Soul and jazz enrich the west coast music. The set brings this mixture of styles to the present. The music becomes more mainstream and at the same time an influence to some European artists.  You will find big international hits on this compilation. Unknown singles or album tracks from big international names. And unknown songs from unknown artists. You may discover some nice tunes.

The mastering on these 4 CD sets is generally superb (sleeve notes say by Isaak Jasmin at Lanewood Sound Studio CA). Ventura Highway, Dance with me  , Dismal day  all sound really crystal clear & better than most audio source I've heard those tracks on. If you like soft rock from the 70's & 80's including the big sellers with some  rarities thrown in, you'll be happy with these. (Amazon)
