KINKS DEEP CUTS

Kinks - Stop Your Sobbing, The Kinks Deep Cuts (A Butterboy Compilation) CD1+CD2+CD3

The Kinks are an English rock band formed in Muswell Hill, north London, in 1964 by brothers Ray and Dave Davies. They are regarded as one of the most influential rock bands of the 1960's. The band emerged during the height of British rhythm and blues and Merseybeat, and were briefly part of the British Invasion of the United States until their touring ban in 1965 (as a result of constant fighting between the brothers). Their third single, the Ray Davies-penned "You Really Got Me", became an international hit, topping the charts in the United Kingdom and reaching the Top 10 in the United States. Their music was influenced by a wide range of genres, including American R&B and rock and roll initially, and later adopting British music hall, folk, and country. They gained a reputation for reflecting English culture and lifestyle, fueled by Ray Davies' wittily observational writing style. The Kinks were great songwriters that were so so underrated.

Here are 90 tracks  considered as deep cut, from right across their amazing catalog.

  1. I think I have all of these, but that's not going to stop me from downloading them again. As celebrated as they are, the Kinks still never get their due. Maybe Ray Davies is 'too English' like Yasujiro Ozu is 'too Japanese'.

Whatever the case, muchas gracias, Butter!

    1. Hi slr in tx,
I agree. It's funny because you often hear about their impact on rock. They are regarded as one of the most influential rock bands of the 1960's. But Still they are not first to most people's minds. There are a great band, the songwriting is wonderful and once there hooks get into you they get even better.
That is why I looked at there somewhat less recognised tracks, and they are still great.

      Cheers.

  2. Hi!

Thanx for these. Another English band "introduced" here in late 70's by best friend coming from France. Until then only listened to/"knew" about North American Top 40 music. Fun memories.

    Cheers!
    Ciao! For now.

  3. The only problem with comps like this is that when you're as big a Kinks fan as me, nothing is a deep cut! Kinks are still predominate in culture (film & tv soundtracks, every other commercial, deluxe re-issue packages, etc). Long live the Kinks!
