VA - Power Pop Anthems The 100 Greatest Power Pop Songs of All Time [2021] (5 x CD's)

Pete Townshend, the guitarist and principal songwriter for The Who, is credited as the originator of the name “power pop.” He used the phrase to describe the type of music The Who performed in the late 1960's - upbeat, catchy, hook-driven - but the name wouldn’t catch on until the 1970's. "Pictures of Lily" was included in the Who album Meaty Beaty Big and Bouncy, a compilation of previously released singles. Townshend coined the term "power pop" when he used it to describe the song in a May 1967 interview with NME.

Following weeks and weeks of extensive research reading through critics polls, readers and listeners polls, fan lists, TV countdowns, online discussion forums votes (Steve Hoffman), Will Birch insight and favourites listed, Wikipedia info, my own recollections and favourites, I have finally settled upon my 100 Greatest Power Pop Songs of All Time collection.

My goal was to include the very very best of the genre, the cream of the crop, and to add a number of tracks you just never see on compilations due to licensing, music rights issues, etc.. These are the top 100 songs which are mentioned and feature most on all the power pop discussion forums and critics and fan lists. (K)
