VA - Golden Age of Pop (A Product Of A Magical Time In Music) [2010] (10 x CD's)
This expansive ten-disc set surveying pop music’s modern vocal era includes such romantic ballads and classic sides as Roy Orbison's “Crying,” Ray Charles' “Georgia on My Mind,” Brenda Lee's “I’m Sorry,” Rick Nelson's “Poor Little Fool,” Jimmie Rodgers' “Honeycomb,” Perry Como's “Catch a Falling Star,” Don Gibson's “Oh Lonesome Me,” Patti Page's “The Tennessee Waltz,” Bobby Vinton's “Blue Velvet,” and Skeeter Davis' “The End of the World,” among many, many others, and like all of the Time Life issues, it comes assembled with great care and sound. (AllMusic review by Steve Leggett)
This era had it all. Legendary singers, timeless music, great harmonies, plus some of the best love songs of all time. The 50's was a time of tremendous optimism, and the music had a special way of touching our hearts.

Hi Stephen.
DeleteNot going to debate it here but I consider 30's and 40's and 50's great pop era's..
Not modern pop but luxurious pop.
Cheers.
I like the idea of what you call "luxurious pop"....wonderful
DeleteCheers
Stephen
Hello BB.... I am really enjoying this set... just wanted you to know that.
DeleteI heartily agree the 30s 40s 50s were all great era's for recorded music.
I have some cylinder recordings from even earlier that are great listens!
This set was likely named by a marketing team. I'd call it "Vintage Pop".
Thanks, mr.Radio.
DeleteSome magic there for sure.
My grandkids call me a Vintage pop
Cheers.
Hi BB
ReplyDeleteThe comment above had me thinking.
I read a while ago about the difference in Producers.
One says I want to make a sound I want, and the other says how can I make the sound you want.
Examples are Phil Spector using anybody he wants to make his sound and George Martin helping the Beatles make the sound they wanted. (Sgt Pepper)
This collection mostly is the former, but still good.
By the way cd 4 track 12 is Perry Como.
Hi lemonflag,
Delete... also the time (decade) played a big part in the way a song was recorded and played. Social norms were different too. Equipment changed rapidly but the sound was always geared towards popular music.
I'll check the track list. Thanks
Cheers.
