VA - Tuxedo Junction, Harmony Records Story 1957-1962 [2014] (2 x CD's)

Harmony Records was founded in 1925 as a subsidiary of Columbia Records and was revived in 1957. This new Harmony label was used solely to release 33rpm long-playing records and like many other budget labels, it was 'cheap and cheerful'. Harmony however, had the advantage of the entire Columbia back catalogue to draw upon for their compilations. With such an eclectic mix as this, there are riches to be found on every track of our compilation, from Gene Krupa's jazzy title track to the Carter Family's traditional closer - a veritable cornucopia of delights.

This is an interesting collection that is quite hard to categorise. The cover states 1957-1962 and this to some extent is true since all of the tracks were released or re-released by Harmony Records on LP's during this time span. However, the actual recording dates range from 1928 to 1959. There are a good few cover versions here as well as a few original recordings. As for the content, well it ranges from the Appalachian country/folk of the Carter Family to fifties pop and rock 'n' roll via big band, a little jazz themed material and Liberace! Enjoy eclectic.
