K Tells Vol. 06
K-tells.... My Disco Dancing set!
VA - Disco Rocket - 20 Original Hits - 20 Original Stars (K-tel NE 948 UK) (2022 Remastered Expanded Edition) (2CD) (1976) Disco Rocket was originally released in the UK by K-tel in 1976. It was later followed by releases in late 1976 and early 1977 in Germany, the USA, Canada and Brazil. They each featured different track listings.
Disc 1 features the complete original UK album, plus two bonus tracks taken from the German edition, making a 22 track set with a new running time of 77:39 CD length.
Disc 2 features 24 of the very best song selections taken from the Germany, USA, Canada and Brazil editions, with a running time of 79:15 CD length.
VA - Disco Fever - 20 Original Disco Hits (K-tel NE 1014 UK) (2022 Remastered Expanded Edition) (2CD) (1977)
Disco Fever was originally released in the UK by K-tel in 1977. It was later followed by releases in late 1977 and early 1978 in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Australia, New Zealand, the USA and Canada. They each featured different track listings. Baccara's 'Yes Sir, I Can Boogie' is featured as the first track on the album. A breathy disco classic (which bore a noticeable similarity to Thelma Houston's 'Don't Leave Me This Way'), it topped the charts in 10 European countries, including the UK. It went on to sell more than 16 million copies - more than any girl group had ever achieved at the time.
The German issue of Disco Fever by K-tel also featured 'Yes Sir, I Can Boogie' as the first track on the album, but with an overall different track listing to the UK edition. I've added two bonus tracks from the German version to the UK edition to make a 22 track CD. The German edition of the album featured a limited edition poster of Baccara, and to my knowledge, the first time K-tel had ever included a bonus treat!
Disc 1 features the complete original UK album, plus two bonus tracks taken from the German edition, making a 22 track set with a new running time of 78:05 CD length.
Disc 2 features 22 of the very best song selections taken from the Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Australia, New Zealand, USA and Canada editions, with a running time of 79:05 CD length.
VA - Disco Stars - 20 Original Disco Hits (K-tel NE 1022 UK) (2022 Remaster) (1978) Originally released in the UK only by K-tel in 1978, the cover art was very much inspired by the massive global phenomenon of the original Star Wars film in 1977. The album begins with the 'Star Wars Theme / Cantina Band' by Meco which eventually went on to sell over 2 million units. This 2022 remaster features all the complete original unedited 7" single mixes, including a few hard to find tracks with a new running time of 69:53 CD length.
Hope you enjoy! K
Hi all downloaders.
Just a gentle reminder to acknowledge K. who goes to a lot of effort to ensure you have a wonderful listening experience on these compilations. Very rarely do I see thanks to him for his genuine hard work and the time and effort to make 100% sure all tracks are the original 7” single edits and mixes featured on most of his album posts. Let him know what you think of the albums, your thoughts on the sound quality, digital editing, consistent volume levels throughout, artwork and research, etc. A message can always be sent later, after listening to the shares. There is no time limit for comments.
Please take that step further and thank K for these posts. Appreciated.
Cheers

Thanks so much for these continuing K-Tel albums BB and K, completely taking me back to my early introductions to music in the 70s. LOVING THEM!!!
ReplyDeleteHi SleepyPete.
DeleteThat is great to hear.
Enjoy them all as the become available each week.
Cheers.
I love these K-tel comps. I was a little surprised when I didn't see Celi Bee or Wilson Street Place because I could have sworn they were on Disco Rocket and where I first heard "Superman" and "Disco Lucy" both tracks I used to dance to in the clubs. But I realize that different countries have different versions. Oh well
ReplyDeleteHi Pol.
DeleteThese are all wonderful compilations.
Who knows maybe a future revision may find more tracks to add.
Cheers.
I love all of them!
DeleteHi Pol.
DeleteDisco Rocket was originally released in the UK by K-tel in 1976. It was later followed by releases in late 1976 and early 1977 in Germany, the USA, Canada and Brazil. They each featured different track listings.
Disc 1 features the complete 20 track original UK album, plus two bonus tracks taken from the German edition and one from the USA edition, making a 23-track disc.
Disc 2 features the very best song selections taken from the Germany, USA, Canada and Brazil editions, making a 25-track disc.
Newly updated today to include:
Celi Bee and the Buzzy Bunch - Superman
Disco Lucy (I Love Lucy Theme) (Original 1977 7" Single Version) - Wilton Place Street Band
Plus, improved audio quality vinyl rips of:
Try It On (Original 1976 7" Single Version) - Exile
Disco Music (I Like It) (Original 1976 7" Single Version) - J.A.L.N. Band
as they have never appeared on CD.

Thanks so much K! These take me right back...
ReplyDeleteHi Mark L.
DeleteGlad to hear the memories are flowing back. Enjoy.
Cheers.
Coming from a working family, money for a young teens' record collection was low on the priority list. Therefore, when this teen did manage to earn or cajole a few dollars from the parents for a record, K-Tel was the go-to choice for the simple reason it usually had all the current hits as well as a few less than popular tunes. I'd like to thank-you for reviving the K-Tel collection. While earlier releases covered my teen years, these later releases also hold a fond memory or two . . thank-you!
ReplyDeleteHi Unknown.

BB... you know I'm playing catch-up here, but want to comment at this point on all these 'K' and 'K-tells' collections I see you have posted. Thank you BB, for befriending K, seeing the treasure in these, and working it out so you could present them to us. I will enjoy these like I enjoy the thought you put into your own comps.
ReplyDeleteK is definitely due complements, so I hope he notices, or perhaps can be passed on directly to K.
K.... You have my full-blown and 'unedited' thanks for your work assembling these 'K-tell' and 'K' collections. The attention to detail, in not only the music, but also it's documentation and comments, is fully appreciated. On many levels, there is no way that this was easy for you to do... that is clearly evident... and makes these re-worked and polished compilations worth all the more. This is great music and a valuable historical record. In particular, with the 'K-tells' you have taken what we thought was pretty good, removed the nagging short-comings we were relegated to live with, enhanced it all, and through these efforts you've given us unbounded joy to experience these volumes (maybe again) in a complete and meaningful way, just like (or better than) we probably always wanted!
K... We honor your dedication and love for music... Thank you for sharing it with us all.
and Now, and at last... when it says 'Original Stars' and 'Original Hits' ... it's really true!
Hi mrRadio.
DeleteI truly appreciate your expressions of gratitude toward K's work. He will no doubt see this comment and feel the warmth in which it was written. You are a thoroughbred individual.
Cheers.
Dear Mr. Radio,
DeleteMany thanks for all your kind words and praise.
Receiving compliments such as this makes all the time and effort into making these compilations so much more worthwhile.
I do put a tremendous amount of time and research into every K-tel re-compilation, making absolutely sure all the correct full and complete 7” single versions are included as were originally featured on the original albums, even though many tracks were initially edited and cut short from their original running times.
I also spend a great deal of time making sure the volume levels are consistent across an entire album. There’s nothing worse than listening to a homemade compilation where the levels jump from very low to very high from track to track, plus also editing out any dead or quiet space at the beginning or end of tracks making the running tighter without large gaps of silence.
Even though these albums take a lot of work, it’s always very satisfying when you reach the final result and the content is as perfect and professional as can be achieved.
Not every track is taken directly from CD as quite a few have been really hard to find in their original 7” form and have required ripping from the original vinyl, but I do spend time cleaning up the audio in Audacity as best I can. Also, I often go through and listen to 40, 50 versions of the same track to select the very best sounding version I have available to make the compilation the absolute best it can possibly be.
I’m glad people like yourself are getting so much enjoyment from these as they were really meant to be heard, using the very latest and best sounding crisp clear remasters released to date with many tracks taken from the original master tapes for superior sound quality.
I also have to thank BB for championing my work and presenting these compilations for appreciative people like yourself to enjoy.
I hope you get many hours of pleasure listening to many long-forgotten songs and smash hits from yesteryear and thank you once again for all your kind thoughtful words and praise.
K
