REGGEA
VA - The 100 Greatest Reggae Songs of All-Time (2021 Super Deluxe Edition)
Due to the popularity of the K-tells Reggae post here is another great compilation.
The 100 Greatest Reggae Songs of All-Time (2021 Super Deluxe Edition) (2021) After considerable research and scrolling over lists and lists online of the best reggae songs ever made, voted for on many forums, and based on the comments and praise online, plus my own recollections from listening to all the great reggae John Peel used to play, I finally settled upon my top 100 of all-time.
Along with so many classics, a number of great instrumental dub versions of the A-sides which often appeared on the B-sides have been added to the original singles. So many tracks here you just never see on regular run of the mill reggae compilations, due to licensing, music rights issues, it's a fantastic compilation of classic reggae.
Enjoy
K.

I'm not especially a Reggae fan, but I want to thank K for the compilations he offers (quality & sound!), and that encourage me to listen. It's really a great Blog BB, we can't say it enough!
ReplyDeleteHi Patrick,
DeleteSometime we need to listen to music we would not normally listen to. It broadens our musical understanding.

DeleteA lot of great energy from this music.
Have a safe and enjoyable Easter break.

The "100 Best of" format is unfortunately far too often superficial, not really in-depth, without passion and expertise. Not so in the Butterboy cosmos! This compilation has class, is highly knowledgeable, and it has been put together with heart and soul by a real aficionado. Great(est) work on this subject, one hundred tons of thanks to both of you, K & Mr. B.! Best, TC
ReplyDeleteP.S. And yes, the late John Peel always was a powerful educator and sound scout for me, too ...
Hi TC,
DeleteYour comments encapsulate exactly what I feel about K's work. Thanks for highlighting this.
Cheers.
Correct versions!! Great sound quality!
ReplyDeleteReggae deserves to be compiled and presented like this.
Each song bringing back memories of the first time I heard it...where I was, who I was then, very cool...
Thanks, K.

The great fun of Top 100's is the chance to disagree. I reckon about 80/20. But that is not to say I wont enjoy them all. Thanks you K.
ReplyDelete(Is there such a thing as Blue-eyed Reggae?)
Thanks lemonflag,
DeleteI took this set to a party yesterday and it went down a treat, not everyone enjoyed every track but it kept us going all day. As you say it was still enjoyable.
Blued eye reggae??? If you mean white men doing reggae, there is lots.
