Take Me Home, 'Country' Roads!

VA - 20 Town & Country Greats - Original Songs - Original Stars (K-tel NE 302 UK) (2022 Remastered Expanded Edition) (1974)      20 Town & Country Greats was originally released by K-tel in the UK only in 1974 on vinyl and cassette. As the original 20 track album had a pretty short running time of only 54 minutes, I decided to expand it by adding an additional 9 bonus classic country tracks, which were all released before 1974, the original album release date, now creating a 29 track album with a new running time of 79:49 CD length.  Featuring all the original unedited 7" single mixes. No later re-recordings or album versions - only the original hit single 45 versions. Includes a few hard to find tracks. Fully remastered using the very latest and best sounding digital remasters released to date.

VA - Country Comfort - 20 Original Hits - 20 Original Stars (K-tel NE 924 UK) (2021, 45th Anniversary Remastered Expanded Edition) (1976)      Country Comfort was originally released by K-tel in the UK only in 1976 on vinyl and cassette. It was a big success, reaching #8 on the official albums chart on the 30th October 1976.  As the original 20 track album had a pretty short running time of only 55 minutes, I decided to expand it by adding an additional 9 bonus classic country tracks, which were all released before 1976, the original album release date, now creating a 29 track album with a new running time of 79:03 CD length.  Featuring all the original unedited 7" single mixes. No later re-recordings or album versions - only the original hit single 45 versions.  Includes a few hard to find tracks. Fully remastered using the very latest and best sounding digital remasters released to date.

VA - Convoy - Music from the Motion Picture (Capitol Records UA-LA910-H US) (2022 Remastered Expanded Edition) (1978)      Not released by K-tel, but an exceptionally successful TV advertised soundtrack released worldwide in 1978 on vinyl, cassette and 8-track tape, featuring many classic country songs.

Originally released by Capitol Records, 'Convoy' is the official soundtrack album from the smash hit film of the same name.  C.W. McCall, an adman who found fame as a country music singer with songs about 18-wheelers, including the 1976 crossover No. 1 “Convoy”, sadly died at age 93 on Friday, April 1, 2022.  “Breaker one-nine, this here’s the Rubber Duck,” McCall intoned in the novelty hit “Convoy”, a song that celebrated CB radios and the community of long-haul truck drivers who used them.  Released in November 1975, the spoken-word saga would top both the country and pop charts the next year, sell more than 2 million copies, inspire a 1978 movie of the same name starring Kris Kristofferson, and help add jargon like “10-4, good buddy” into the national lexicon.  The title track by C.W. McCall on the 1978 soundtrack album is a new version of his 1975/1976 #1 worldwide hit, written especially for the film, with saltier language!  The original album was a very short 10 tracks which ran to just over 29 minutes. I have expanded it to contain an additional 17 classic country tracks, which were all released before 1978, the original album release date. It now runs to a 27 track, 77:50 minute CD length compilation.  Featuring all the original unedited 7" single mixes. No later re-recordings or album versions - only the original hit single 45 versions.  Includes a few hard to find tracks. Fully remastered using the very latest and best sounding digital remasters released to date.

The album was re-released on a long out of print CD in Germany in 1987 and is virtually impossible to find now, but if you're lucky enough to come across a copy expect to pay upwards of $200!

Enjoy!

Hi all down-loaders.

Just a gentle reminder to acknowledge K. who goes to a lot of effort to ensure you have a wonderful listening experience on these compilations. Very rarely do I see thanks to him for his genuine hard work and the time and effort to make 100% sure all tracks are the original 7” single edits and mixes featured on most of his album posts.   Let him know what you think of the albums, your thoughts on the sound quality, digital editing, consistent volume levels throughout, artwork and research, etc.  A message can always be sent  later, after listening to the shares. There is no time limit on making a comments.

Please take that step further and thank K for these posts. Appreciated.

Cheers

    1. Hi lemonflag.
After listening to Country music (sorry for the label) it make me aware of this impact country music has on many genres. Enjoy the ones you like. There is a big sway of country on the weekend.
      Cheers

We should not forget that Country and Blues merged to make Rock & Roll. Remember Elvis was a countryfied singer before he started rocking and rolling.

  7. Now this is an intriguing post, BB. A much-maligned genre, where stereotypes often make people quick to judge and close their ears. Not this dog. This will certainly feature among my driving music this summer. 10-4!

    1. Hi harry the dog.
I totally understand what you are saying. We hear the work "country" and stay back and sometimes avoid. But it is a wonderful genre that everyone should visit.
      Cheers.

  12. HUGE Thanks for the Ktel post - these are so cool and fun. Pulls me back to being a kid and this one album was all you had for months (besides radio) and you not only had the "hits" but found these other songs that became the soundtrack for your life. Amazing work.
