SAN FRANCISCO ROCK ARTISTS
VA - Butterboy Plays Rock Bands From San Francisco (A Butterboy Compilation) CD1+CD2 REPOST
San Francisco is a westward-looking port city, a city that was 'big enough' but not manic like New York City or spread out like Los Angeles. San Francisco developed an especially vibrant and attractive countercultural scene in the latter half of the 1960's, musicians from elsewhere came there. Some stayed and became part of the scene. The sound they created was infection and in the most fun to play and listen to.
The 1960s isn’t the only time of musical influence for this California city. San Francisco is rich with music history. Jazz, punk and rock music all have deep roots in the city. You may know famous San Francisco artists like the Grateful Dead and equally famous residents like Janis Joplin, other popular bands got their start in the city by the bay as well. Journey, Green Day, and even Counting Crows and Faith No More began here. Even the go-to source for Rock and Roll journalism, Rolling Stone magazine, began in San Francisco before moving to New York City.
This compilation concentrates on Rock artists that originated or based in San Francisco. I have included band from the 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's and 2000's. Some famous, some not so famous, but all offering great music. Enjoy!

ReplyDeleteWas there once, walked on the beach and got my feet covered with oil. But it was a beautiful town. Bought a copy of Howl at City Lights. The music was/is good.

Thanks for the Howl. My copy seems to have disappeared, but I'm sure it's around somewhere. Sucks getting old.
DeleteHi lemonflag.
DeleteGlad to oblige.
No one is really old; our bodies might not agree.
If the young ones look closer, we are not a lot different from them. If we look at younger ones, they have the same passion's we had just some of the topics have changed.
Cheers.
