VA - Classical Somewhere, Classical Music that Inspired Rock and Pop (A Butterboy Compilation) CD1+ CD2.
Over the last 400 years of music classical music has long been the inspiration for new music. Classical music is a great source of inspiration for songwriters. Countless pop and rock songs have been based on classical pieces, with some of the most influential pieces spawning multiple songs!
Rock music and classical music might seem like they would be completely opposed to one another. But there are a surprisingly large number of instances where these two seemingly adversarial worlds cross over. There are instances where rock music that has 'borrowed' passages pretty much straight from recognizable classical music.
Presented here are 51 tracks of Rock and Pop tracks that are clearly inspired by classical music. Also presented are 33 classical pieces that were referenced inspiration for their rock and pop counterparts. Each set could stand alone however, it's a better experience to hear the rock and pop versions and then listen to the classical pieces. See how these songs fit together. For those who don't normally listen to classical music you may find a new appreciation for it when comparing the tracks chosen here. I hope you enjoy these.

Another masterpiece by BB. It is truly amazing - when I grew older, starting exploiting classical music - I was completely blown away, how many songs I was already familiar with from younger years, when listening to pop stars...
ReplyDeleteWorth to check particular album by Mr.Malcolm McLaren - he eventualy made the whole pop album from classical pieces. Thanks again BB.
That is very kind of you, StoneRose.
DeleteI will Check out the Malcolm McLaren album.
Cheers.
Great idea Butterboy I always liked these concepts also with different languages (French, Italian, etc) many thanks for the discs!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Little Bill.
DeleteHope you will enjoy this set.
Cheers.
Thanks Crab Devil.
ReplyDeleteJust trying to be different.
Cheers.
That's excellent BB! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteJi John,
DeleteLike I said to Crab Devil above, just trying a different approach that we often don't look at.
All music has an ancestry and Classical music is a rich source of ideas too.
Cheers.
Well done!
ReplyDeleteBonsoir BB,
Beggars Opera / Poet and Peasant (Franz von Suppé) - LP Vertigo 6360 018 de 1970
Beggars Opera / Light Cavalry (Franz von Suppé) - LP Vertigo 6360 018 de 1970
Brian Auger and Trinity / Pavane (Gabriel Fauré) - LP Befour RCA Victor de 1970
Dominique
Hi Dominique.
DeleteGlad you liked it.
There will always be more songs to include, and a second volume may just be the answer. Thanks for the suggestions. I am always open to suggestions.
Cheers.
Hello BB,
Deletewithin my collect, I found that following track :
Vanilla Fudge / Für Elise (Beethoven)
Youpi
Thanks, Dominique.
DeleteCheers.
BB This is fun. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteAs I dl'd this I was wondering how many people would be interested in this. What kind of numbers do you get on all your postings? I noticed the top 70 years collection only got 7 thank you's. I am sure there were many takers. This is of course a sticking point for many blog owners. Just an idle thought, but I want you to know I really, really, really appreciate all you do. (and K)
Thank you, lemonflag.
DeleteI truly appreciate your loyalty and support.
I share the music I listen to with the idea that some will have them, and some will not have them. Whichever way, the music is always eclectic, and it seems that many enjoy this format. You know with my own compilations I like a mix of the new and the old. As far as comments go, they are always well below the number of downloads. I am grateful for every comment received and realise that the downloads still must be doing some good to many. I just love sharing as does K.
Thanks again, lemonflag.
Cheers.
Well Done!
ReplyDeleteThanks Pol.
DeleteAppreciated.
Ceers.
The first thing I want is to thank you for all the good music that you kindly share on your blog. Therefore, thank you very much. Referring specifically to this new collection, just to tell you how much I liked it and how interesting it seems to me, especially when it includes the classic pieces that the "modern" songs are inspired by. Quite a find with a magnificent result. Thank you again and much encouragement with your blog.
ReplyDeleteHi Antonio,
DeleteThank you very much for your kind words and thoughtful comments. We all share something in our hearts and minds that connects with music. We may not all like the same piece of music but from time to time the music brings us closer. I believe that music is healing and keeps us young whether it Classical or Rock, Jazz or Punk, Experimental or Soul. I hope you will find more in the future that you will connect with.
Cheers.
Hi Charlie,
ReplyDeleteThank you. I hope you will enjoy it whenever you listen to it.
Cheers.
Another excellent post. You really do spoil us with these wonderful collections.
ReplyDeleteMany thanks
Thank you, andymann.
DeleteAppreciated. I hope BB Comps continues to delight.
Cheers.
I got to know your website through a recommendation - and I must confess: I am overwhelmed. To be so knowledgeable in selecting so many different styles and songs and then to make them available - that's just great. Your compilations are so extensive that I would hardly have thought them possible. Because actually, years ago I started compiling an hour of music for my wife and me every evening - always under a different theme. I thought only I could be so crazy as to have compiled several hundred lists by now. And whether it's classical themes in popular music, for example, or whistling or handclapping - you've easily eclipsed all my efforts. I know how much work it is - all the more I admire your perseverance, your skill and your taste. Please keep going. You are unique. And thank you very much for everything.
ReplyDeleteHi ingolf,
DeleteI appreciate your kind words and encouragement. My hope is always that people enjoy what I post.
I have posted a new compilation weekly for years now and it a real joy to do. I am glad to hear that the topics are favourable. There is a weekly segment called MY Compilations. You are welcome to submit some of your efforts too. Fine details and guidelines here: https://krakenfiles.com/view/cqZ74xNodO/file.html
Cheers.
These two sets are very interesting and somewhat juxtaposed compilations, BB!
ReplyDeleteSpecial recognition/congrats for cover art on the first, Somewhere Classical, set.
If I'd found it on display in a store, I may have purchased that by the cover alone!
What a wonderful accolade, mrRadio.
DeleteI always try to choose artwork that is appealing.
Glad you like it.
This set was received extremely well buy my visitors for which I am happy.
Cheers.
