VA - Pirates (A Pol Original)
Like many boys growing up, I was fascinated by Pirates. Mind you this is decades before Johnny Depp. I lived near Disneyland and would go on the Pirates of the Caribbean ride, even though it was an "E" ticket ride. Back then you got a passbook of A-E tickets with an entry ticket to Disneyland. The roller coaster type rides were "E" tickets and things like the Hall of Presidents was an "A" ticket. Some did not make sense. That way you were probably going to see much more of the park rather than just the coasters. Although we usually went with my grandparents and we always got their "E" tickets. Then we would eat and go to the Tiki room with the talking parrots and It's A Small World because they sang in Dutch and Indonesian and I'm a first generation American. So going on the Pirates, The Tiki Room and Small World happened every time we went to Disney, Until they went ticketless. And by then my grandparents were no longer going with all of us boys. But those rides (and Disney itself) very much influenced my musical tastes later in life. I looked for Pirate songs and Tiki songs, songs from around the world and Dixieland Jazz (like they played in the Carnation gardens off Main Street). Granted the pirate songs were now much better and encompassed a wider variety of genres, but they still were Pirate songs. And I loved them. I dressed as a Pirate for Halloween; I threw Pirate Parties in College (even built a ship with cannons in my college living room) and I talked like a Pirate once a year on Talk Like a Pirate Day on September 19th. I even put-up pirate related skulls and lights every Halloween, even now.
Enjoy these 47 Tracks.
