James Marshall "Jimi" Hendrix (born Johnny Allen Hendrix; November 27, 1942 - September 18, 1970) was an American guitarist, songwriter and singer. Although his mainstream career spanned only four years, he is widely regarded as one of the most influential electric guitarists in the history of popular music, and one of the most celebrated musicians of the 20th century. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame describes him as "arguably the greatest instrumentalist in the history of rock music." (Wikipedia)

This is an excellent collection of Jimi's work. The albums are listed so there is the content so I will not list easily found information here, just a short description since there is none yet. One difference is that these LPs are of far superior quality construction than your "average" LP's. The quality of the recordings is excellent, but the physical pressing is top notch and includes little touches like plastic centers. These were pressed in West Germany. Of course, being LP's, you get a lot of interesting artworks on the covers that you won't find on any other format. It comes in a reasonably sturdy box made of some type of cardboard that has protected my collection inside it which was purchased new in 1980 until now in perfect like new condition so they albums inside show no signs of wear and even retain that new album smell, so the box has helped maintain condition. Not bad after 31 years.

If are a Hendrix fan and can get your hands on a "like new" condition of these I would certainly advise purchasing it if you can. The original selling price at Tower Records Seattle was $100.00. I have seen new sets going on this site for $1300.00 plus so get one new or in truly like new condition where they can be found for a far more reasonable price and the next best thing if you can. Be careful with them and enjoy. I have carefully played my set once for the purpose of recording. The older they get being in new or like condition will become ever more important to state the obvious. It is pretty tough to beat this collection and any Jimi Hendrix fan will most certainly appreciate and covet this boxed set. I truly hope the best remaining sets find their ways in to true fans and would make a surprising and wonderfully thoughtful gift if you want to do something nice for a friend that is a Hendrix fan, they would most certainly realize and appreciate your efforts instantly upon receipt. In this age of MP3's which are quite convenient and functional they are also unfortunately in such a compressed format that quality suffers. These do not have that issue of course but also even a higher quality CD is lacking in areas including the album cover art these contain. So, it is more than just the collection of songs and even if they were available as an inferior MP3 download it is not the same thing. (B)
