This box set covers every aspect of R&B, from the swinging and jazzy tunes of the late 40s and early 50s, to the soulful and emotional melodies of the mid 50s and early 60s, to the groovy and funky rhythms of the late 60s and early 70s. You will witness the transformation of R&B music through the years, as well as the impact of Atlantic Records on the music scene and society. This box set is where rock’n’roll’s roots are at. It includes the original 7 (double) LP set, as well as 20+ extra tracks not previously included covering the fertile period between 1947-1974. 

This box set consists of eight CDs, each containing a selection of tracks from a specific period of time.  The raw stuff from the 40’s & 50’s is a pointer to Elvis & Jerry Lee. This is some of the original music those artists cut their teeth on. The hits are here and things that you may vaguely remember as well. Atlantic have done a wonderful job with this release. This is what R & B really is…before it was just a couple of initials representing what passes for today’s music. This box set shows the rich legacy of American Rhythm & Blues music. This box set is not just a collection of songs. It is a musical journey through time and space, a tribute to the legacy and influence of Atlantic Records on R&B music and American culture.
