The series was compiled by Pat Conte and originally issued on the Yazoo label in the mid-1990s. The series features rare and obscure recordings of traditional music from various regions and cultures, such as Central Asia, North Africa, East Africa, Europe, the Americas, and more. The series aims to showcase the diversity and richness of human musical expression, as well as the historical and cultural contexts of the recordings. The series has been praised for its high-quality remastering, extensive liner notes, and stunning cover art. The series consists of five volumes on CD, as well as several vinyl releases with different themes. The Secret Museum of Mankind is a treasure trove of musical gems that offers a glimpse into the past and the present of humanity’s sonic creativity.
