VA - MOJO Magazine Presents: The 100 Greatest Singles of All Time (Readers Poll - December 1997) [2023] (5 x CDs)

K SPECIAL MOJO's READERS POLL

VA - MOJO Magazine Presents: The 100 Greatest Singles of All Time (Readers Poll - December 1997) [2023] (5 x CDs)

Mojo (stylised in all caps) is a popular music magazine published monthly in the United Kingdom, initially by Emap, and since January 2008 by Bauer. Following the success of the magazine Q, publishers Emap were looking for a title that would cater for the burgeoning interest in classic rock music. The magazine was designed to appeal to the 30 to 45-plus age group, or the baby boomer generation. Mojo was first published on 15 October 1993. In keeping with its classic rock aesthetic, the first issue had Bob Dylan and John Lennon as its first cover stars. Noted for its in-depth coverage of both popular and cult acts, it acted as the inspiration for Blender and Uncut. Many noted music critics have written for it, including Charles Shaar Murray, Greil Marcus, Nick Kent, David Fricke, Jon Savage and Mick Wall. The launch editor of Mojo was Paul Du Noyer and his successors have included Mat Snow, Paul Trynka, Pat Gilbert and Phil Alexander. The current editor is John Mulvey.

While some criticise it for its frequent coverage of classic rock acts such as the Beatles, David Bowie and Bob Dylan, it has nevertheless featured many newer and "left-field" acts. It was the first mainstream magazine in the UK to focus on the White Stripes, and it continues to cover emerging acts. Modern cover stars of recent years have included Lana Del Rey and Arctic Monkeys. Every issue of Mojo published since its inception (apart from Mojo #88 and Mojo #125) has featured an article on Colin Blunstone.

Mojo regularly includes a covermount CD that ties in with a current magazine article or theme. It introduced the Mojo Honours List, an awards ceremony that is a mixture of readers' and critics' awards, in 2004.

More recently, the magazine has taken to publishing many "Top 100" lists, including the subjects of drug songs (Mojo #109), rock epics (Mojo #125), protest songs (Mojo #126) and even the most miserable songs of all time (Mojo #127).

In 1997 two polls were taken to determine the 100 greatest singles of all time. An experts poll in August 1997, followed by a readers poll in December 1997.

MOJO Magazine Presents: The 100 Greatest Singles of All Time (Readers Poll - December 1997) (5CD) (2023)

Compiled by MOJO magazine from top 10 lists supplied by their loyal readers worldwide.

The 100 greatest singles were voted for by the readers listed on the inside cover of the December 1997 - issue 49. Songs not available on 45s in the UK were disqualified.

I put in hundreds of hours of research into compiling this collection and paid particular close attention into how the original singles were released, using many hard to find correct 7" single versions, edits and mono mixes.  No later remixes, re-recordings, 'stereo enhanced' or live bootleg versions here!  Compiled as always using the very latest and highest quality digital remasters, with a considerable amount of tracks sourced from the original master tapes for superior sound quality and enjoyment.  Almost 6 and a half hours of many of the greatest singles ever recorded!

  1. K Lists like this are fun. Whenever you start to listen to music it creates a baseline in your mind. From then on songs are rated as better or worse than what you have already heard. Every person and every generation has a different baseline. I'm an old fart from the sixties, the sex pistols do nothing for me but the Clash is a different story. Thanks for your effort in making these wonderful collections.

    1. I really appreciate your kind comments and so happy to hear you’re enjoying my compilations.
It’s with comments like this that make all the hours and hours of research in putting these together all the more worthwhile that people like yourself get so much pleasure in listening to them and hopefully discovering a few long-forgotten gems you may not have heard previously.
I try to make these the very best sounding I can by pulling from the very best sources and highest quality master's for a truly authentic listening experience with all original versions the way they were released at the time and meant to be heard.

    1. Hi SUNSTORM.
There are two separate options for downloading, one from ImagineNetz and the other from Pixeldrain. Each of the links offer the same download files. I have checked and the tracks are as listed in this post.
      Cheers.
