VA - Fairytales Can Come True is a series of five CD compilations of UK pop and psychedelic music from the late 1960s. The series was released by Psychic Circle, a label founded by Nick Saloman, who also compiled and wrote the liner notes for each volume. The series features songs by various artists, some of whom are well-known and others who are obscure or one-hit wonders. The series covers a range of styles, from sunshine pop and harmony pop to freakbeat and mod. The title of the series is taken from a song by San Francisco Earthquake, which appears on the first volume.

VA - Fairytales Can Come True Vol. 1 [2007] UK Ppopsike From the Late 60's     Twenty previously-uncomped tracks of enchanting UK pop-psych, compiled by legendary psych musician and Psychic Circle label-head, Nick Saloman (The Bevis Frond). You'll find the pre-Fairport Iain Matthews, the only single from Jackie Lomax's Lomax Alliance, Gallagher & Lyle's unique response to Pet Sounds & a Troggs-like gem from P.J. Proby's hairdresser! Compilers and collectors alike know that there was some wonderful music coming out of the UK in the late '60s and it wasn't all-out psychedelia or floor-filling blue-eyed soul. Sure, all these tracks have a psychy feel, and some of them would pack a dancefloor, but really, they're more concerned with harmony and pop sensibility. These are dazzling tracks, all very melodic and very refreshing.

Delve into the froth and you will find The Merseys operating under a pseudonym, an obscure Cat Stevens weird-out, beat legend Sean Buckley with a new name, an unknown version of a Deram classic, plus a host of similar pleasures. Whimsical and hazy also melodic and hummable,but with anomnipresent lysergic undercurrent. We visited the Nethelands twice before, and due to the great response from our fellow travelles, we'rw going back for another trip. This time you'll meet a suitable freaked-out Irish showband, an American band transported to Paris, a family band from Fulham, a Scottish supergroup in the making, plus a whole lot more. The many-hued charabanc is fuelled and ready to depart. Climb aboard, wrap your paisley travel rugs around your vertically striped hipsters and Let's Ride.

Twenty previously uncomped tracks of a popsych nature gathered from the UK and Europe are presented here for your listening pleasure. Sweet harmonies mix easily with freaked out effects, chart-aimed pop socialises happily with wah-wah pedals and the occasional fuzzbox. Sometimes whimsical, sometimes heavy, but always melodic and unusual. Just like (as Patrick Campbell-Lyons once said) ...all of us.

Some names may be familiar, others may not. Hopefully, you'll find some new aural thrills within as you groove to an Irish folk band gone decidedly trippy, an Italian-only release from a Bournemouth based soul band, a lilting number from the son of a world-famous painter, a band from Harrow who became Italy's top psych outfit, and the singer of The Cheynes going psychedelically solo. Come cats, fill the empty time through which you step with bright sound and colour.
