THE A-Z of GOTHIC ROCK BOX SET
VA - Great Goth Almighty, The A-Z Of Goth Rock (A Butterboy Compilation) Box Set (4 x CDs)
Gothic Rock, often referred to as Goth, is a unique genre of music that emerged in the late 1970s. It was born out of the post-punk scene in the United Kingdom, and quickly gained popularity for its distinctive, dark soundscapes and introspective lyrics.
The origins of Gothic Rock can be traced back to the post-punk movement, a genre that was itself a reaction to the commercialization of punk rock. Post-punk bands began to experiment with darker themes and more complex musical structures, and from this exploration, Gothic Rock was born. The genre is characterized by its use of minor or bass chords, reverb, and dark arrangements, creating a sound that is both haunting and captivating.
Gothic Rock is more than just a genre of music; it’s a form of expression that deals with dark themes through its lyrics and the atmosphere of the music. The lyrics often exhibit literary romanticism, morbidity, existentialism, religious symbolism, or supernatural mysticism. This poetic sensibility sets Gothic Rock apart from other genres, giving it a depth and complexity that is both intriguing and thought-provoking.
Over the years, Gothic Rock has evolved and influenced a variety of other music styles. It gave rise to a broader goth subculture that included clubs, fashion, and publications in the 1980s and 1990s, and continues to have a significant impact today. The genre has also seen a resurgence in recent years, with new bands drawing inspiration from the original Gothic Rock sound and adding their own modern twist. Today, Gothic Rock continues to thrive and evolve, with a dedicated fan base and a number of bands keeping the genre alive. Its influence can be seen in a variety of other genres, and its unique sound continues to captivate listeners. The genre’s dark, atmospheric soundscapes and introspective lyrics continue to resonate with listeners, offering a form of expression that is as powerful today as it was when it first emerged.
Gothic Rock is a genre that has stood the test of time. From its origins in the post-punk scene to its influence on modern music, it continues to captivate listeners with its unique sound and dark themes. Whether you’re a long-time fan or new to the genre, there’s no denying the allure of Gothic Rock. Its rich history and continued relevance make it a genre worth exploring.
Dive into the “VA - Great Goth Almighty, The A-Z Of Goth Rock (A Butterboy Compilation) Box Set”! It’s a bold, impactful and a captivating journey through the world of Gothic Rock. You’ll feel the genre’s power and depth, and its dramatic, atmospheric essence will shine through. (B)

Hi Butter.
ReplyDeleteI like this dark sounds.
They are the best.
Many thanks.
Jose
Hi Jose,
DeleteI am pleased you like this set. More in the future.
Somehow many are scared or repulsed by the word Goth and the fashion around it. But it's their loss as the music is terrific, often emotional and full of poetic sensibility and always thought provoking.
I hope more to have an open mind and ear to explore this genre.
Cheers.
Hello Butter.
DeleteThis is a style that I have always liked, from its beginnings with bands like Joy Division to Gotic metal bands.
A while ago I bought a rare box of ten CDs and published it on one of my blogs, I don't think it has ever been seen on the internet again.

It's very interesting, with some bands that appear in your box.
I will wait for the continuation of this collection.
cheers
José
Hi Jose,
DeleteThanks for directing me to this compilation.
I have many Goth rock sets, that I used for my compilation but didn't see this one ever. It looks like a wonderful set.
My main focus was that I had a band/artist for every letter of the alphabet include. I then sorted them by year. I liked the result. I also added the 1956 track to reference on of the innovators that also went Goth/Punk.
Thanks again for the link and more for me to listen to.
Cheers.
A nice play on words in conjunction with a comprehensive, very informative collection. I see lots of old favourites (aah, the Sisters!), but also many representatives of this genre that I hadn't heard of before. Looking forward to the listen & many thanks, BB! Best, TC
ReplyDeleteThank you, TC.
DeleteI hope you get the same enjoyment from this set, as I did, pulling it together.
Cheers.
