VA - Aqualung (Redux) [2024]

TRIBUTE

VA - Aqualung (Redux) [2024]

Aqualung (Redux) [2024] is a bold reimagining of Jethro Tull’s legendary 1971 album, brought to life by Magnetic Eye Records as part of their Redux series. This tribute album gathers a diverse lineup of artists, each offering their own interpretation of the classic tracks that defined progressive rock and folk-infused hard rock.

Jethro Tull’s Aqualung is widely regarded as one of the most influential albums of its era, blending poetic storytelling with intricate instrumentation. While the original album explored themes of society, religion, and isolation, Aqualung (Redux) breathes new life into these songs with fresh perspectives and modern production.  The album features standout performances from artists across various rock subgenres. Chris Goss & Alain Johannes deliver a powerful take on the title track, Aqualung, while The Well brings a heavy, psychedelic edge to Cross-Eyed Mary. Huntsmen transform Mother Goose into a sprawling, atmospheric journey, and The Sword injects their signature stoner rock energy into Locomotive Breath.

One of the most intriguing aspects of this release is how each band interprets Ian Anderson’s songwriting. Motorpsycho’s version of Up To Me shifts the song’s dynamics, while Domkraft & Arvid Hällagård close the album with a haunting rendition of Wind-Up. The result is a collection that honors the spirit of the original while pushing its boundaries.

With its mix of hard rock, psychedelic elements, and doom-infused reinterpretations, Aqualung (Redux) celebrates Jethro Tull’s lasting influence. This album offers a fresh perspective on a timeless classic. (B)
