VA - Born to Be Wild [1996] (3 x CDs)

UNAPOLOGETIC and UNTAMED ROCK

VA - Born to Be Wild [1996] (3 x CDs)

"Born to Be Wild" is a thrilling 3-CD compilation released by Castle Communications, packed with classic rock anthems that embody the rebellious spirit of the genre. This collection is all about energy, attitude, and the raw power of rock, bringing together legendary artists who helped define the sound of the ‘60s, ‘70s, and beyond.

From the moment you hit play, this set takes you on a wild ride through rock history. Black Sabbath’s "Paranoid" kicks things off with its iconic riff, setting the tone for a compilation that doesn’t hold back. Nazareth’s "Razamanaz" and Status Quo’s "Mean Girl" keep the momentum going, delivering the kind of driving rock that makes you want to turn the volume up and hit the open road.

But it’s not just about the heavy hitters; this collection also shines a light on some underrated gems. Mungo Jerry’s "Long Legged Woman Dressed in Black" brings a bluesy swagger, while Jonathan Richman’s "Roadrunner (Twice)" injects a playful energy into the mix. Robin George’s "Heartline" and Magnum’s "The Prize" showcase the melodic side of rock, proving that power and emotion go hand in hand.

One of the standout features of this compilation is its mix of live recordings, adding an extra layer of excitement. Lindisfarne’s "Run for Home" and Blue Öyster Cult’s "Born to Be Wild" capture the raw energy of a live performance, making you feel like you’re right there in the crowd. Gary Moore’s "Parisienne Walkways" and Bo Diddley’s "Road Runner" bring a bluesy intensity that balances out the harder rock tracks.

The second and third discs continue the journey, featuring classics like The Kinks’ "All Day and All of the Night," Uriah Heep’s "Easy Livin’," and Emerson, Lake & Palmer’s "Fanfare for the Common Man." Whether it’s the driving riffs of Motörhead’s "Bomber" or the haunting melody of Blue Öyster Cult’s "(Don’t Fear) The Reaper," every track has something special to offer.

At its core, Born to Be Wild is a celebration of rock’s untamed spirit. It’s the perfect soundtrack for anyone who loves their music loud, passionate, and full of life. Whether you’re revisiting old favorites or discovering hidden gems, this compilation is a must-have for any rock fan. So, crank it up, let the guitars roar, and enjoy the ride (B)

  2. I've been listening and enjoying this. Several of these tracks have not been on my radar. In fact, some of the bands I had never heard. But it is definitely a driving haunting riff ridden selection of songs. I am sure I will use some of these songs in the future, they're too good to pass up again.
