DAVID BOWIE
VA - The Many Faces Of David Bowie (A Journey Through The Inner World Of David Bowie) [2016] (3 x CD's)
David Bowie was an icon. A legend. A musical chameleon. Some even say that he was a genius. Like Lennon and Elvis before him, when Bowie passed away on January 10th, 2016, it was the end of an era. The rock 'n' roll landscape that he helped create is vastly different now that he is gone. However, it is time to celebrate his life and the music he left behind. On this special three CD set, his legacy is celebrated in performances by his former band mates, collaborators and even the man himself. This release features songs written or covered by Bowie played by many of the artists he called friends: Iggy Pop, Tony Visconti, Ian Hunter, Mick Ronson, Reeves Gabrels, Mike Garson, Angie Bowie, Woody Woodmansey and many others. There are even some tracks performed by his former band The Spiders From Mars. To top it all off, David himself is featured as guest vocalist or producer on a handful of these recordings. So, raise a toast to the Starman and enjoy this triple disc dosage of David! (Amazon)

Hmm, these won't go to the zippy site. Had no problem with other zippy files.
ReplyDeleteCD 2, trach 14 is called Jacques Brel's original version of 'Le moribond', which could be translated as 'The Dying Person'.
ReplyDeleteDo you mean that they put le Moribond instead of la Mort, both from Jacques Brel ?
DeleteBecause when I hear Bowie, it's clearly la Mort that was covered.
I don't find any cover of Le Moribond By Bowie.
Jacques Brel has never written nor recorded a song called 'La mort'. It is called 'Le moribond'. Why give the song a wrong name? La mort is simply the translation of 'The Death'.
DeleteBut the song is called 'Le moribond'.
Hi peerke,
DeleteYou may be right but it was included and stated as such on this Bowie compilation as La Mort (My Death). A translation of Brel’s “La Mort” (1959)
The song is also referenced all over the internet as a song written by Jaques Brel.
Composer: Jacques Brel, Lyricist: Jacques Brel,Vocals: Jacques Brel, Conductor: François Rauber
Covered by David Bowie, Marc Almond & Scott Walker.

ReplyDeleteSeems zypeezjare has problems serving files at the moment, we can expect this to get to normal anytime soon. I hope. Several other links also not functional including ones that worked yesterday, day before...
DeleteBowie has covered La mort and Amsterdam, but not not Le moribond
ReplyDeleteHi All,
ReplyDeleteFirstly thanks to all for their comments. You feedback is appreciated . @dom, I believe you are correct.
RE Zippy I also found problems with the link just now so I will re-post a new link so.
To me the track in question is clearly La Mort.
Discogs specifies the track As La Mort.

These are the Lyrics as stated in the song La Mort.
To my ears the Lyrics are the same .
Cheers.

ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeletewhen talking about David Bowie all is always good, a true genius!
thanks a lot!
Regards
Hi, I owe you guys an apology. I completely messed up. David Bowie indeed covered 'La mort', a song Jacques Brel recorded in 1959.
ReplyDeleteI somehow was thinking about that awful 'Seasons in the Sun' which is based on 'Le moribond', from 1961.
Sorry, forget everything I said here about this.
I won't do it again.
Hi peerke,
DeleteNo problems. You got me searching and I learnt a lot. So thank you.
Cheers.
Sorry to bother you, the files are down
