This is a fantastic collection of obscure and often weird country music. If you're big into outlaw country and/or country gospel acts like the Louvin Brothers, you may have heard a few songs on these compilations, but most of these are pretty obscure. Most of the songs on here deal with lyrical subjects like murder, suicide, hippies, Satan, and drugs. Musically the songs range from western swing to ballads and even rockabilly. Tortured souls and troubled hearts – served up here in a dark set of narratives from the classic years of country music!

This excellent series goes way beyond the big hits, to turn up lots of great songs from the shadowy corners of country – songs about bad deeds and poor choices – handled by a variety of different singers who really keep things interesting! Largely unknown and unheralded, this collection of Hell-Bound Hayseeds will come as a revelation. Mostly cut on microscopic or private-press labels and distributed in minuscule amounts, these Tortured Troubadours tell of torments, temptations and tumults.
