COUNTRY ROCK SPECIAL
I was listening to Michael Nesmith & The First National Band - Silver Moon the other day and though what a great Country Rock song that is.
So naturally I had to make a Country Rock CD. Well, there is so many tracks that I ended up with a double hit for today's BB compilation. From rock stars who’ve gone country to country artists showing their rock side, here is 4 x 25 tracks over two volumes of Country Rock songs.
When Rock 'n' Roll bands of the late '60s began incorporating country music styles, (Nashville, Honky-Tonk, Bluegrass, which emphasize harmony singing, two-beat bass playing, and looping rhythms), along with greater use of acoustic guitar, pedal steel guitar, dobro, banjo, and mandolin, 'Country Rock' was born. The Byrds got the ball rolling and were soon followed by artists like Gram Parsons, Bob Dylan, Rick Nelson, which soon sprouted Country Rock bands like Flying Burrito Brothers, Poco (one of my favorites), Eagles, and all the offshoots and solo efforts by these musicians. Many artists have taken the country feel into their rock compositions and we are the better for that. Rock and country just blend together beautifully.
This selection of Country Rock songs highlights my favorite examples of songs that exemplify Country Rock. Some songs are album cuts and were never released as singles, but were influential and inspiring in the evolution of Country Rock. I know I could have introduce many more artists to this genre but this is the first list I have ended up with. Maybe Vol's 3 and 4 will need to be collected. Enjoy!
