VA - Buried Alive!! Demented Teenage Fuzz From Downunder 1965-70 [2017] (6 x CD's)
The Particles label really went all out with this 6 x CD box set of killer Australian garage rock, psyche, fuzz and freakbeat. Many of these artists have been long forgotten by about 50 years now or more as all recordings took place between 1965 and 1970, each disc is phenomenally remastered for best sound quality, down in oz back in the 1960's garage rock was as big as it was in the US/UK and Europe but because they are on the other side of the world many or most artists 50 years ago did not get much ( if any) recognition outside of oz or New Zealand, as with all particles releases what you have here are tons of tracks from 45's that where on small labels or the band even put out the 45 or LP themselves, this comes with a great booklet that explains all of that with each disc housed in a mini LP replica style sleeve and the discs fit right into the replica sleeves perfectly. Some of these bands where way, way ahead of their time with even a punk sound in 1967, 10 years before punk, very raw rough stuff here, if freakbeat, fuzz and garage rock or early punk foundations is your thing this box set is for you. Bobby Bare - All-American Boy [1994] (4 x CD's)
Robert Joseph Bare Sr. (born April 7, 1935) is an American outlaw country music singer and songwriter, best known for the songs "Marie Laveau", "Detroit City" and "500 Miles Away from Home". He is the father of Bobby Bare Jr., also a musician. "The All-American Boy" single is a 1958 talking blues song written and sung by Bobby Bare, but credited by Fraternity Records to Bill Parsons, with songwriting credit to Bill Parsons and Orville Lunsford. While Bare was in the army, Parsons lip synced the record on television. The song was co-written by Ralph Edward Hogsten, who also performed bass on the recording. However, he was uncredited. A cover version was recorded by Bob Dylan and The Band in 1967, officially released November 4, 2014 on The Bootleg Series Vol. 11: The Basement Tapes Complete. (Wikipedia)
Bobby Bare was the original outlaw, the original Nashville Rebel, and these are his early and great recordings. After starting with Capitol in 1956, Bobby went on to cut All American Boy (issued under Bill Parsons' name), and then signed with RCA in 1962. We take the story up to 1965, and we've included his rare German language recordings as well as all the early hits like Detroit City, 500 Miles Away From Home, Miller's Cave, and Four Strong Winds. VA - Smash Boom Bang, The Songs & Productions Of Feldman, Goldstein, Gottehrer [2012]
As a songwriting collective their surnames were never likely to trip off the tongue as smoothly as a Mann & Weil, a Goffin & King or even a Boyce & Hart. In fact, to the uninitiated, Feldman-Goldstein-Gottehrer sounded more like a high-powered law firm than three New York-based writer-producers who hit a winning streak with their highly stylised productions and artful songs in the mid-60s. Together for a mere four years, Bob Feldman, Jerry Goldstein and Richard Gottehrer were mavericks, a trio of Jewish musketeers who never took themselves quite as seriously as some of their peers and seemed to have a lot of fun testing the limits as they made their way in the music business. And where others saw their careers stutter and stall in the wake of Beatlemania’s new frontiers, F-G-G rode the crest of the new wave as though they were part of it – which, to some extent, they were.
What really distinguished F-G-G was the hard-edged kinetic energy of their productions, whose bruising headlong thrust was propelled by the drummer (usually New York session pro Herb Lavelle) surrounded by a massed welter of percussion effects. Their work in the studio was also characterised by a keen sense of spatial awareness with lots of air and ambiance playing their part. Yet, for all this, the trio were just as easily capable of switching to the opposite extreme, penning tender soul ballads of blissful sophistication such as ‘The Drifter’ (recorded by Ray Pollard in 1965) and ‘Giving Up On Love’ (a hit for Jerry Butler in 1964). Best of all, they had few pretensions. Where Mann & Weil saw themselves as potential heirs to the great Broadway writers, harbouring, as did many of their peers, ambitions of breaking into legitimate musical theatre, F-G-G owed more to Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley and Jerry Lee Lewis than to George Gershwin or Frank Loesser. The trio hit their stride in the mid-60s with a varied portfolio that included the #1s ‘Hang On Sloopy’ by the McCoys and ‘My Boyfriend’s Back’ by the Angels - and several chartmakers by the Strangeloves, the selfsame threesome masquerading as a rock band. Initially, they specialised in girl groups – some real, some fabricated – and applied their distinctive touch to every one before moving into the rock field.
“Smash, Boom, Bang!” is exciting stuff from end to end, much of it new to CD and all held together by the distinctive F-G-G production imprimatur. This collection comes to you with the full co-operation and involvement of Feldman, Goldstein and Gottehrer themselves and comes with a sumptuous 28-page booklet packed with rare memorabilia. (ACE)

VA - Enjoy The Greeks [2004] + Enjoy The Greeks II (The Ultimate Hellenic Rock'n'Roll Compilation) [2006]
This is a set of compilations of various Underground Garage & Rockabilly Greek bands. Not much is known internationally when it comes to Greek rock music. But there is a great indie scene that's worth your attention. This could be one of the best Garage/Psych scenes in the world. Most of these bands didn't get the chance to record in a proper studio or release an album, but thanks to independent labels there were many releases from small Greek indie labels. On Stage Records was one of them.
On Stage Records presents the first complete retrospective compilation of today's Greek rock'n'roll scene. This compilation presents the best crop of the "Now Sound" of the Greek rock'n'roll. It includes 15 artists in 22 tracks (most of the cuts are originals) with sounds varying from straight-on rockabilly to garage and from surf to psychedelia. You will find everything in here from various Garage Rock styles, Rockabilly, Psychobilly and Pop Rock tracks. All the tracks included are previously unreleased and very carefully selected! And like the bottle of the famous Greek aperitif "ouzo" at the front cover, this compilation is destined to be an exportable product and will surely appeal internationally.
Enjoy The Greeks II is a compilation that was available free with the Music Magazine POP & ROCK (was a popular monthly music magazines in Greece, founded in 1978 and finished in 2012). As with 'Enjoy The Greeks" It contains many Garage Rock, Rockabilly, Psychobilly and Pop Rock tracks. All tracks are previously unreleased except tracks 1,9 and 17. (Amazon)
