MEMPHIS SOUL
VA - Memphis 60 Soul, R&B And Proto Funk From Soul City USA [2009]
Yet another fantastic collection of obscure soul tunes, compiled by Dean Rudland for the BGP label.
Of the more obscure recordings from around the city we bring you LH and the Memphis sounds, whose wonderful Packy Axton related 45 is a £200 northern collectable. Our Queen of Memphis Barbara Brown is present and correct as is a previously unreleased R&B shouter called 'Shake, Shake, Shake' recorded by Willie Bollinger for her label, XL. There is a good mixture of original material and cool covers (soulful remakes of the Beatles' "Ticket To Ride", the Sir Douglas Quintet's "She's About a Mover", and Lowell Fulsom's "Tramp" (performed here by young Junior Kimball, who later gained renown in blues circles as Junior Kimbrough). There is also an early Isaac Hayes track (recording as Sir Isaac & the Do-Dads) and a wicked instrumental by the Cobras, a 1964 track with Steve Cropper and his mighty guitar. But the goodies don't stop there. We are also treated to more fine soul by the likes of Willie Bollinger, Prince Conley, Barbara & the Browns, the Dixie Nightingales, Eddie Purrell, and much more. Eddie Bo - Baby I'm Wise, The Complete Ric Singles 1959-1962 [2015]
All nine of Eddie’s Ric 45's plus several originally unissued masters making their CD debut. We’ve already brought you two multi-artist overviews of New Orleans’ R&B from Joe Ruffino’s Ric and Ron labels and a collection of Johnny Adams’ complete recordings for the company. Now it’s the turn of his label mate Eddie Bo to be anthologised. The years 1959 to 1962 were a musically fertile period in Eddie’s career, yet his Ric recordings are often overlooked in favour of his later funk classics. The tracks here show just what a great singer and songwriter Eddie was in his youthful prime, and how unlucky he was not to have made it as big as, say, his Crescent City compatriot Lee Dorsey. “Baby I’m Wise” contains the A and B-sides of all nine of Eddie’s great Ric 45's, plus four tracks that somehow didn’t come out at the time but are as good as anything that did. The uniformly high quality of them makes the fact that not one of them breached the charts something of a surprise, but all were hits in Eddie’s New Orleans hometown and each one sounds much better than a lot of records that charted nationally. Many of these classics would make it into any definitive list of New Orleans’ all-time great R&B records. This is the first time they’ve been collected in the same CD, with all tracks coming to you from fresh transfers of the original mastertapes. (Ace)

The Topic is your choice, Genre is your choice and any music is acceptable. (If readers don't like the topic or choices then they don't have to pick them up)
When presenting your submission, the Topic of your compilation should be Noted as well as the sound quality of the compilation. (ie 320Kbps MP3, Flac, etc).
Whilst most would prefer MP3's @ 320 kbps all I request is a good sound quality.

VA - Power Pop Anthems The 100 Greatest Power Pop Songs of All Time [2021] (5 x CD's)
Pete Townshend, the guitarist and principal songwriter for The Who, is credited as the originator of the name “power pop.” He used the phrase to describe the type of music The Who performed in the late 1960's - upbeat, catchy, hook-driven - but the name wouldn’t catch on until the 1970's. "Pictures of Lily" was included in the Who album Meaty Beaty Big and Bouncy, a compilation of previously released singles. Townshend coined the term "power pop" when he used it to describe the song in a May 1967 interview with NME.

Following weeks and weeks of extensive research reading through critics polls, readers and listeners polls, fan lists, TV countdowns, online discussion forums votes (Steve Hoffman), Will Birch insight and favourites listed, Wikipedia info, my own recollections and favourites, I have finally settled upon my 100 Greatest Power Pop Songs of All Time collection.
My goal was to include the very very best of the genre, the cream of the crop, and to add a number of tracks you just never see on compilations due to licensing, music rights issues, etc.. These are the top 100 songs which are mentioned and feature most on all the power pop discussion forums and critics and fan lists. (K)

VA - Rock & Roll Orgy Vol. 01 - Vol. 08 [1995-1997] (8 x CD's)
This may be the best series of rockabilly compilations I've run across, and I've blown a lot of money on some mediocre crap. You get a ton of solid senders from fairly obscure names that run the gamut from hillbilly to rockin' boppers. It's an excellent compliment to the outstanding "That'll Flat Git It" series from Bear Family and the crazy fun and raw "Sin Alley" set. You can't go wrong! with all volumes.
