BB LUCKY DIP's #86

BB LUCKY DIP's #86

Lucky Dip's will be a mystery gift to those who choose to pick them up.

Today's links: VERTIGO Albums    Part 07 (061 - 070)

“… it was clear that nobody was expecting anything like this. Many wouldn’t have heard any prog rock before, or had only heard the kind of prog that gave the genre a bad name. This was a performance to convert the sceptics.” Bob Leiser

Vertigo Records is a record company that originated in the United Kingdom. It was a subsidiary of the Philips/Phonogram record label, launched in 1969 to specialise in progressive rock and other non-mainstream musical styles. Today it is operated by Universal Music Germany, and the UK catalogue was folded into Mercury Records, which was absorbed in 2013 by Virgin EMI Records, which was renamed back to EMI Records in June 2020.

  3. Good to see Bob Leiser back!

    Heres a good one:

“I hail from the industrial heartland of the North East of England (where men are men and sheep are worried) - and I had a comfortable career mapped out for myself as an electrician in the chemical industry. But somehow I never really fitted in.”
Dave Sturt - (Jade Warrior - Basses: Fretless, Upright, Acoustic, Fretted. Sound Shaping, Samples, Keys, Heavy Breathing, Production)

    Stay safe
    Cheers
    Stephen

  6. Thanks for the Vertigo series. Those were a special time when you could be assured that what came out on a particular label (such as Elektra, Charisma, or Harvest) would always be interesting, and in some cases, groundbreaking.

  9. Re myself too,
    # Assagai - 1971 - Assagai, for info backing vocals by Jade Warrior & 3 tracks composed by JD's members :
    A1 - Barazinbar, B2 - Sanga and B4 - Kinzambi

    # Aphrodite's Child - 1972 (i/o 1971) - 666 (2xLP) red front cover.
    For info,
In 1977, these both LPs were reissued in UK with black cover (Vertigo 6641 581).
The 1972 brasilian single version called "Break" is released under reference 6333 502 & contains only 7 tracks. The cover shows a crashed and glided 2CV Citroën.

  10. Hi BB... a small correction for you
    You meant: VERTIGO Albums Part 07 (061 - 070)

  11. re / about Assagai - Zimbabwe
I found another detail : this album with reference Vertigo 6309 079 UK is just a promo test never released on Vertigo . The LP has been edited with the same reference 6309 079 by Philips.
