EXOTICA

VA - Exotica for Monty (A Butterboy Compilation) CD1+CD2+CD3

Exotica is a musical genre, named after the 1957 Martin Denny album of the same title that was popular during the 1950s to mid-1960s with Americans who came of age during World War II. The musical colloquialism exotica means tropical ersatz good, the non-native, pseudo experience of insular Oceania, Southeast Asia, Hawaii, the Amazon basin, the Andes and tribal Africa. Denny described the musical style as "a combination of the South Pacific and the Orient...what a lot of people imagined the islands to be like...it's pure fantasy though." While the South Seas forms the core region, exotica reflect the "musical impressions" of every place from standard travel destinations to the mythical "shangri-las" dreamt of by armchair safari-ers. This is a special post for Montysmusic.
Monty suggested an Exotica compilation. I have posted a lot of exotica in the past so it wasn't hard to collate some favorites, some rare and some fun exotica for Monty. Its my way of saying Thank You Monty for your posts , your request shares and your good judgement and appropriate comments. So here, Music Lover, are three albums of exotica for your pleasure. Enjoy!

  1. Thanks Butterboy .. looking forward to hearing these. You obviously have an exhaustive collection, if you can lay your hands on Leroy Holmes' version of 'Baby Doll' would you please include it in a future collection. It was just about the last record I acquired on 78rpm (back in the late 50's) it got sat on and i've never found another copy!!!
