WORLD FOLK

VA - Emociones, 25 Years Network [2005] (3 x CD's)

Over 225 minutes of sublime music from 31 ensembles originating from 13 countries. I guarantee you'll be mesmerized by the music, soul, and sounds. If the Ladysmith Black Mambazo choir sounds familiar, it is because it is the recording that led to their discovery by Paul Simon (and feature on his popular album "Graceland"). My personal favorite are the cries and lamentations of Momo Wandel Soumah in "Felendo Yefe". The song is about the "lamentation of a mother whose daughter has not yet returned from the traditional initiation ceremony". The only sad part about this album is that several of the extraordinary performers died in recent years.  If you like to discover, travel, learn, or experience other cultures, this is for you -- you won't be disappointed. (Amazon)

This collection is quite simply the best compilation of any of this kind of music. The quality of sound and selections is superb.

  3. Butterboy ,
to be honest I've never seen any administrator as prompt and friendly as you, who really adores his labour of love , music !
What I enjoy most is your own collections from so many different genres and especially the ones that do not contain the "usual suspect" choices !
It's so obvious that you are a member of the unique Steve Hoffman forum !!

    1. Thanks Chris,
      Appreciated.
I try to offer something different and something that I feel is worth listening to. I have been accused of being eclectic in my tastes.
      Cheers.
