ISOLATION

VA - Isolation CD1+CD2+CD3 (A Butterboy Compilation)

John Lennon wrote in his song "Isolation" - “People say we got it made, don’t they know we're so afraid, Isolation. We're afraid to be alone, everybody got to have a home, Isolation”...
These words really make you feel that you can feel that isolation is part of the human psych and exists by your own thoughts. The song also makes you realize that we can be so cruel to each other.

Everyone has experienced these feelings of loneliness or isolation at some stage.

With so many people in the world, how is it possible anyone feel lonely or isolated? Many of us may have felt loneliness when a loved one dies, after relationship ends or we're new to a school, job or community. Feelings of loss or grief, Lack of purpose or meaning in life can lead to feeling isolated and alone. Isolation is being separated from other people and your environment. Loneliness is a feeling of sadness or distress about being by yourself or feeling disconnected from the world around you.  Loneliness is an unpleasant emotional response to perceived isolation. It may be felt more over a long period of time. It is also possible to feel lonely, even when surrounded by people. Two principal types of loneliness are social and emotional loneliness, but there are other loneliness like family loneliness and romantic loneliness. Further types of loneliness include existential loneliness, cosmic loneliness - feeling alone in a hostile universe, and cultural loneliness - typically found among immigrants who miss their home culture.

Many artist have written about loneliness, isolation and solitude, The 75 tracks are by artists whom convey these feelings very openly. Of course there are many more songs about solitude, isolation or loneliness, but these are my picks that may offer some hope that we are not alone. After all it is what a songwriter’s job to convey feelings that make us think and feel. Often these songs help us look at ourselves in a way we may not have previously.

The Cars "Drive" is one of the best songs about isolation, as is Joy divisions "Isolation" and John Lennon’s "Isolation”. The Beatle's "Eleanor Rigby", Pink Floyd's "Hey You", Black Sabbath's "Solitude" and Suzie Quarto’s "Lonely Is the Hardest" are wonderful examples of musicians conveying just enough to make you realise that there is suffering in isolation.  Also included in this list is an instrumental by Air "Alone in Kyoto". No words, just a tune that highlights and captures the feeling of isolation just beautifully. These are very powerful songs.
  I won't say Enjoy… just Think.

  1. Thank you for this very timely and thoughtful collection, Butter. I know some of the lyrics might drive some folks to looking for a rope and a sturdy beam... but in fact, the words reassure the loneliest and most isolated-feeling that there are many people nearby who feel the same hurt and bleakness and loneliness; and so, in fact, they're in good, loving company.

We're riding this out together, family.

    1. Thanks Aging Child,
As I said above, I hope that these tracks make people think , especially for how others may be feeling. Loneliness is Insidious, it eats away until you don't remember where it all started.
      Peace to all.

      aaah?... Cheers.

    2. I think your aim was successful; there's a fine and vital line between loneliness and solitude... a distinction some folks lose sight of. You've put it back into the gentle spotlight.

      Enjoy your weekend; stay healthy!

    3. Hi Aging Child,
You are always so gracious and i thank you for that. i put a little bit of time into my compilations so I am grateful when someone picks up on what I was trying to do. There has been a lot of good feedback on this one.
FYI the Readers Sonwriters Poll was a success and I will post the results in the next few weeks. Just contemplating the best approach.

You also enjoy the week ahead.
      Cheers

    4. It's clear why this compilation has yielded such fine feedback; where it reaches inside us is especially sensitive and unsettled right now, and in need of just the deep breath and spans of reflection these recordings encourage. Nice!

Also: it's particularly good that you're taking your time with the poll results - this ensures the most interesting and rewarding presentation... and the awesome range of nominations deserves just that. Ahh...

  4. A great compilation again, will listen tonight. Thank you for making our days a little brighter!)) Just one thing puzzles me: #44 CD2 and #53 CD3 -- two different versions of the same Warhorse song (judging by differing length)?

    1. Hi Iron Toad,
That what Isolation will do to you... have I lived through this already. Days and sounds are blending together.
Truth is I rushed a bit and didn't pick this up. I've listed to this set of tracks so many times but didn't see the error.
Thanks for pointing it out and I would be happy to receive another track suggestion.

      Cheers.
