POLYDOR SAMPLE BAG [1971] (2 x LP)

This Rare and sought after 1971 Polydor sample bag double album has some great artists and rare tracks. Was originally sold with album, housed in white, printed canvas shoulder bag with names of the artists and bands printed on one side in pink colour, in the same font as on the album cover and an image of Jimi Hendrix in pink colour, on the other side. Housed in a canvas bag, hence the name of the album.

It is really excellent, I would have had the vinyl in 71,
I would have worn it out!!

    1. Hi Patrick,
Thank you for acknowledging K who did a great job to make this set sound so clear.
There are many worn out LP's like this, my own copy has seen better days.

      Cheers.

    1. Hi Dj Diego MC,
I understand and thank you for your comments. Appreciated.
I also have many versions of songs that have been posted in compilations, But every now and then a set appears that is unavoidable (even if I have many tracks). whilst I may appear to be a song person I am actually an Album person. The artist commits many tracks to convey a feeling and a whole experience which to me is so rewarding to hear. I actually have more artist albums than compilation albums, believe it or not. Also when it comes to my own compilation I try to pick the best track for the theme being conveyed. Sometime it will be tracks I have heard on many albums and sometimes rare tracks.
I don't know if you ever picked this on up but you should try it. Thanks again.

  5. Thanks for another interesting post! Other than collecting Ace compilations (mostly for the excellent liner notes) and rare cassettes issued in the '60s, my other main interest is samplers and promo albums. I got started on these , like so many others before me, by those Warner/Reprise loss leaders and since then, I'm always interested in any I come across, especially in the unique ways they use to promote them. Like, a canvas bag? that really doesn't like a very practical way to house an LP record.. I assume it was stretched over a cardboard liner..
    Cheers! Doc

    1. Hi Doccus Rockus Maximus.
      Thank you.
I have lots of sampler albums too, including the Warner/Reprise loss leaders. I also have a lot of K-tel, Ronco, and Arcade albums. A friend has been providing beautifully restored copies of these which brings a lot of memories of days gone by. The samplers are wonderful compilation used to promote artists and that cannot be a bad thing.

      Cheers.

  6. This is it.. the infamous Polydor Bag Sampler.. once available only in Australia.. and now here thanks to K and BB.

I wonder why Polydor didn't distribute this elsewhere? These label sampler albums were really good marketing tools I think for the days when there was only records and radio. Especially one like this, a double album with an accessory bag. I'm sure there were people that bought it just for the bag alone and what did they do with their albums? I haven't listened yet, but just looking, this is an interesting comp if only for the single edit version of Layla. I am really wanting to hear Bobby Gosh, a new artist for me, and just recently brought to my attention. And poor Thunderclap Newman.. it seems "Something In The Air" is all he is known for.. although it IS a great song and for an obscure artist he sure has gotten alotta mileage out of it. A few others on here are new to me and I'm excited to check it out.

K and BB .. I know this one took extra work .. Thank you for posting this rarefied compilation sampler!

    1. Hi Mr Radio,
Thanks for the encouragement. Sample albums were a great enjoyment for me growing up as they delivered many songs you could not afford if you purchased the singles. I was also introduced to new music. I have a large swag of Samplers, I posted some in the past and will make an effort to post more in the future. K has been very helpful combining the various versions on one set and these will be of the highest quality available.

The Bobby Gosh tack (despite being a cover) is wonderful as is the album it came from. Thunderclap/Something in the air just go together so well. It had to be a hit. The Tin Tin song has always been a favorite.

      Cheers.
