K's 1978 SPECIAL VA - The 150 Best Singles of 1978 (45th Anniversary Super Deluxe Edition) [2023] (7 x CD's)

K's  1978 SPECIAL          VA - The 150 Best Singles of 1978 (45th Anniversary Super Deluxe Edition) [2023] (7 x CD's)

Was 1978 the greatest year in music? In '78, Grease was the word, The Village Voice named 'This Year's Model' by Elvis Costello as the album of the year, Kate Bush, The Cars, Devo, Dire Straits, The Police, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Buzzcocks and Van Halen released their debut albums. The Undertones, Stiff Little Fingers, Protex, Rudi, The Ruts, The Human League, The Cure, Magazine, The Fall and Joy Division all released their classic debut singles.  The Clash delivered their powerful 'Give 'Em Enough Rope', The Boss dropped his classic 'Darkness on the Edge of Town', The Rolling Stones returned to peak form with 'Some Girls',

Warren Zevon's perennial favorite Excitable Boy and Patti Smith's commercial hit Easter were all over the radio. Blondie released their classic 'Parallel Lines', The Jam's 'All Mod Cons' was a career changing moment, Marvin Gaye released his divorce record, 'Here, My Dear', and Cheap Trick rocked one of the great live albums of all time.

1978 was a swirling mass of genres; disco, punk, funk, R&B, rock, and new wave all banging beautifully into each other as the seeds of hip-hop were being sown, ready to take on the world in 1979.

My own compilation of what I consider to be the 150 best singles released around the world in 1978.

Enjoy!

  6. This is beyond incredible as ever. Thanks so much. Was hoping the version of 'Like Clockwork' by The Boomtown Rats would be the 7" version, but beggars can't be choosers. LOVE these posts. Thanks K & BB! SPx

    1. Hi SlepyPete.
Happy to hear your are really enjoying K's posts.
K comments - I never knew the single mix was any different to the album version. I’ve always been under the impression it was the same recording. How does the 7” mix differ to the album version? I still have my original 1978 UK single.
      Cheers.

    2. Hi BB and K. The 'Like Clockwork' 7" version is shorter, and the middle bridge omits the lines...
"You're born in tears and die in pain and that's your limit
You're lookin' for a reason but there's none
There, why don't you admit it"
I'm fond of it because it's the version I always heard in the radio as a kid.
Still, I HUGELY appreciate your posts. Thanks as ever. SPx

    3. Hi Sleepy Pete,
Thanks for the info. I honestly never realised the 7” single was any different to the album version after almost 45 years! Based on my research, I don’t think the 7” edit has ever been released on CD.
Anyway, here's a copy of the original UK 7” vinyl rip. I’ve numbered and fully tagged it correctly so you can easily replace the album version with this and add it to your 1978 singles mp3 files.
