This box set is a collection of rare and obscure gospel music from various African American artists, spanning from 1944 to 2007. It was compiled and produced by Mike McGonigal, a music journalist and editor who has a passion for underground and DIY music. The box set contains three CDs, each with a different theme: The Wicked Shall Cease from Troubling, God’s Mighty Hand, and A Little More Faith. The songs range from traditional hymns and spirituals to blues, rock and roll, and soul influences. The box set features artists such as Rev. Lonnie Farris, Elder Beck, Sister Ola Mae Terrell, Flora Molton, and Isaiah Owens, among many others. The box set was released by Tompkins Square Records in 2009 and received critical acclaim from various media outlets. It is considered one of the most comprehensive and diverse compilations of African American gospel music ever made. (B)
