The flute is a gorgeous instrument to listen to. Of all the instruments of the world, the flute can be traced all the way back to the Stone Age making it the oldest musical instrument in history. Since its beginning the size of the tube and the length has always varied and has advanced as time has progressed. Nonetheless, the standard has always remained the same; to hold it horizontally and use it to make sweet music.

I really love to hear the flute in rock music. The breathy tones of the flute could provide a seamless textural counterpoint to a rock chord. Its soft tones really add a great dimension. I always stop and listen when I hear a flute playing in rock music. I also love its lively swinging quality in produces in jazz music.

Here are 50 tracks that feature a lot of great flutes playing in rock music.  Most are from the late 60's to early 70's because that was the time Flute in Rock was used well.  As a Bonus disc there are also 25 tracks devoted to the Flute in Jazz music.  Enjoy!
