VA - Ethereal Folk, Old and New (A Butterboy Compilation) CD1+CD2+CD3+CD4 

Each of these tracks has an ethereal or dreamy quality. Sometimes with a sublime or ghostly atmosphere. The tracks included here shimmer creating a literal feeling of space and immersion in the sound of the songs. This is created by the way the artist plays their instruments or by the vocalist's use of a dreamy style of vocal. The production has an airy and at times an unearthly ambience. The folky, psychedelic, Indie feel of all these songs fall into the Ethereal Contemporary Folk category well. There are a lot of sustained notes with very gradual volume changes. The chord structures are often complex, and the melody is created with breathy reverb in many of the songs. There are many female singers here which really suits the atmosphere of theses ethereal tracks. The male vocal tracks chosen are here because they create a atmosphere where the introspective feelings of heartbreak and loneliness are held together by the breezy production. There are a few instrumentals included in this lot. This set features older bands and tracks from 60's and 70's together with some more contemporary tunes.  I really enjoy this style of folk music.
