Mary Weiss, lead singer of the Shangri-Las, dies age 75. R.I.P.

Mary Weiss (December 28, 1948 – January 19, 2024) was an American singer, best known as the lead singer of the Shangri-Las in the 1960s. She then vanished from the music scene for decades, returning in 2007 to record her first solo album with Norton Records.

Shangri-Las - Remembered (Singles, B-Sides & More) is a three CD set from the popular 60's girl group. The Shangri-Las mix of bubblegum and melodramatic Pop earned them a string of hits including the worldwide smashes 'Leader of the Pack' and 'Remember (Walking in the Sand)'. Those tracks are included here along with 35 other gems including A-sides, B-sides, early singles, LP cuts and even two spoofs of Shangri-Las tracks by the Detergents! Golden Stars. The Shangri-Las are one of the best girl groups ever. It's always nice to hear the Shangri-Las. They and their team made some of the most memorable songs in the "girl-group" canon. Seriously, even many of their non-hits are classics of the genre. And those voices! So memorable. They certainly deserve to be anthologized in a boxset. (Amazon)
