GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN
VA - Gone But Not Forgotten Vol.01 Soul and Blues Artists CD1+CD2
There are many artists that have pleased us with their talent and sometimes touched our hearts with what they left for us to enjoy. Some of these artists died too early. Their legacy is their music and this post honours their contribution to our lives. Each of these artists have had a mark on me and helped me understand the feeling of soul in a song. They have informed me, they have challenged me and most of all they have given me immense listening pleasure. These artists are truly Gone But Not Forgotten.
I am planning a series of Gone But Not Forgotten features of artists which have come and gone from other musical genres in the future.
Today’s post is a set of songs by Soul and Blues artists that have passed our shores and left us many memories. When you listen to these tracks think about the artists and their contributions to music not just if you like them or not. Please feel their beautiful work and above all enjoy it.
The names of those who are Gone But Not Forgotten are listed below in the tracklist highlighting their birth name, birth dates, date they departed and [the he age they died]. Some died so young and some made it through to their old age. Some have lived longer than I have some did not. The youngest was only 24 and the oldest was 92 (so far). I thank them for for their gifts.

Another thoughtful and well-corralled compilation; thanks for the repost, Butter. I'm already looking forward to more of this series; conceptually, this dovetails very nicely with your earlier "Tribute Songs to Dead Musicians" compilation. The Righteous Brothers were right about a rock-and-roll heaven (RIP, Bobby) - though there are deep annexes outside the rock-and-roll world, up there. I hope, when/if we make it up there ourselves, we'll be able to take tours...
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately there are going to be a lot more of our idols leave this mortal earth in the next few years. For our generation we grew up with music idols and unfortunately our use by date isn't infinite... I hope when I go ii'm listing to music.
DeleteOn that sad note I say goodbye. Hope you are are enjoying life.
Cheers.
We are told the angels sing; Tolkien's mythos had the universe created via angel song; mystics tell us that when we sing, we're praying twice. There is something about music, and uniting ourselves to it by voice as well as heart, that is unlike anything else in the universe. Always keep music nearby, Butter, and you'll get your wish.
DeleteEnjoy the music, Charles
