HORNY ROCK SONGS
VA - Horny Rock Songs (A Butterboy Compilation) CD1+CD2+CD3
Horn sections are an integral part of musical genres such as jazz, R&B, blues, soul, funk, calypso, ska, and gospel. Most of these horn sections feature some combination of saxophones, trumpets and trombones. More rarely, other wind or brass instruments such as flute, clarinet or tuba may be added. Other popular musical genres, such as rock, pop, hip-hop, Latin, and country music also use horn sections... (Wikipedia)
This compilation looks at Horns in rock music. When I listen to bands with a brass section, I usually get dragged into the rhythm of the song being played. They seem to chug along with ease. All of these bands include brass/horn sections (at least two woodwind or brass instruments - trumpets/saxophones/trombones etc.
I hope you enjoy the selection chosen. [Thanks to mrRadio for the compilation suggestion]

GEE WHIZ! What a surprise.. 75 terrific tooter tunes and lots of variety! Horny Rock, very clever.
ReplyDeleteNicely appropriate cover art as well.. BIG THANKS for putting it together! This is indeed superb!!
Thank you MrRadio
DeleteHope you enjoy the tracks, of course there are many more tracks to be found, Possible a Horny Soul compilation would be fitting.
Cheers
Thank you Butter, and Mr. Radio - a good, strong selection of big brass ones (so to speak), under a nicely titillating title. I like your choices... and I'm very curious to hear the ones I don't know. thanks again!
ReplyDeleteHi Aging Child.
DeleteA surprising bid uptake on this one so far. Maybe the title had something to do with it.
Your Sitar suggestion is Next up. Hope your enjoying it.
Cheers.
My thought, too, re the title... so you'll need to find a new one if you ever decide to do a compilation of more-frisky/+risqué recordings (e.g., J. Starship's "Miracles", M. Wilson's "Telephone Man", J. Wilson / L. Baker's "Think Twice (version X), etc., etc. - all the way back to L. Bogan's "Shave 'Em Dry")...
DeleteMore seriously, thanks for the sitar; yes, been listening with interest... and mild surprise that the Moody Blues didn't make the set, nor the Heartbreakers' "Don't Come Around Here" - but there's still plenty of padmasana-worthy tweeeng and drone, and enough candidates for a further disk at some point. Not disappointed; thanks again!
Will look at more Horn Based tunes for volumes 2 and 3 later.
DeleteMoody's played sitar on In Search of the Lost Chord but I don't hear it so clearly so I didn't incorporate it in the comp. I will listen to it again tonight see what I am missing. Its a great album too.
Cheers
Uh... I want to say "House of Four Doors" (from "Chord") has sitar... but what stands out there is Mike Pinder's lovely mellotron, and some great percussion by Graeme Edge. I'll have to listen around their catalog, too; I remember at least one non-single, late-sixties album track (and not on their 1974 and '96 compilations) where there's a clear, melodious sitar between a couple stanzas (not sure if it's in the bridge also). No matter; I'll let you know when/if I find it. Meanwhile, there's so much music waiting to be appreciated, reappreciated, and discovered... just today, I first read of an intriguing instrument invented (but never built) by da Vinci, the viola organista. Check it out online when you have a few minutes; enjoy your week!
ReplyDeleteHi BB - only the file for disc 1 still exists, so whenever you get the time... thanks in advance.
