VA - The Best Album Tracks...Ever! [2005] (3 x CD's)

The Album had its heyday in the Seventies when it became fashionable to listen (forty minutes or so) by the same artist in a particular groove, theme or concept. Some great artists pulled it off with great brio and are featured here aplenty- Dylan, the Stones, Beach Boys, David Bowie and the Beach Boys etc. It was a great format to sit on your on bum without getting up for at least twenty minutes. The downside of the introduction of this format- the music snobbishness and the fetish of the format over the song.

Oh to be young in a such a digital age where music is a plentiful and spans genre, class, race, nationality and gender. The song has become key and people can one minute listen to an old blues record, the next moment Sinatra, Abba, Roxy Music or whatever. Look at the quality of songs on this cd look at the quantity - 6 old albums worth of music- catholic and as comprehensive as one cd is ever going to be. Let's try and get past the lazy diatribe about compilations - yes I have most of this music elsewhere but how I wish I was young guy listening to this music for the very first time. Serendipity. More than half full with Punk, the Beatles, the Stones, Prog Rock, Glam Rock, Jazz, College Rock, Techno, Brit Bop, Ska, Heavy Metal, Folk, and lets not forget the majestic Dusty! (Amazon)

  1. What a great - and very subjective - collection; thanks for bringing it to us, Butter. I'd think we'd all make quite a wide range of selections, but I'd bet that a lot of what shows up here would show up in our own album-rock compilation. (And what a great radio era that was!)

    2. Always good to _be_ here - can't find a better soundtrack anywhere else! ;-) P.S.: Mr. Radio's right; love the picture, and afraid to see the result afterward!

  2. Ya know, even though it's a good sight gag and attention-getter, I gotta say I cringed at seeing all that vinyl stacked up that way.. the weight grinding dirt and dust deeper into the sound surfaces.. someone is NOT taking good care of their precious records! Or their equipment either for that matter.. I guarantee that Technics turntable was not made to support that much weight on the platter.. if you've handled a large stack of albums you know about how heavy a pile that size would be.. just sayin'.. Don't EVER Do That! Anyway, a fun cover pic and interesting collection. I'd like to know how the ordering was determined though! Thanks BB.

    1. You made me laugh. That exactly what I thought when i saw the cover again. I did see another album with many Singles stacked on top of each other on a player that could play multiple singles. The needle drop arm would need to a contortionist to actually play them. I'll have to find it again.
The music in this collection is a surprisingly good listen.
PS. I would never do that :)
      Cheers
