NME PART 2

VA - The 100 Greatest Songs of NME in the 1960s [2021] (5 x CDs)

NME (New Musical Express) has been a prominent force in the British music industry since its inception on 7th March 1952. Founder Theodore Ingham created the publication as a newspaper reporting on music news, reviews, and interviews. It quickly became the go-to source for music lovers in the UK and beyond, with a focus on rock and roll and other popular genres.

Over the years, NME has adapted to changing technologies and trends in the industry, shifting from a print magazine to a digital platform. Its website is now one of the most popular music journalism sites in the world, featuring breaking news, reviews, interviews, and more.

In March 2012, NME marked its 60th anniversary by compiling a list of the best tracks of each decade, showcasing the magazine's long history of supporting and championing influential music. The lists were a reflection of the magazine's focus on promoting new and exciting artists and sounds throughout its six decades of existence.

The selection process for the lists was extensive, with the magazine's writers weighing the influence, popularity, and impact of each track in its respective decade. The final lists were published on NME.com, and each decade featured a top 100 songs, representing a broad range of genres and styles.  Some of the standout tracks from the lists include Elvis Presley's "Heartbreak Hotel" from the 1950s, The Beatles' "A Day in the Life" from the 1960s, Joy Division's "Love Will Tear Us Apart" from the 1970s, Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" from the 1990s, and The Strokes' "Last Nite" from the 2000s. These tracks are a testament to the magazine's role in shaping music culture and influencing generations of music lovers.

NME's influence on the British music industry and beyond cannot be overstated. Its coverage of emerging artists and new sounds has been instrumental in shaping popular culture for over six decades. As the publication continues to evolve with the times, its impact on the music world is sure to endure.

  2. The funny game, I push till 2000 through the link you gave, how far we know the artist & the song? For 2000 I was surprise that I know a good part of the list (I am now 64 old) probably NME is close to my taste, taste I can find in the UNCUT mag. I am not close to the list propsed by SPOTIFY for similar period. Question of editorial line? By the way thanks for the huge work you did
